Just a quick note to share the positive experience I had today.

I had a small University loan ($1,000) that was showing up on my credit report as a collection. I knew that it had been consolidated with my other student loans (federal student loans) two years PRIOR to the date they were showing it was sent to collections. I have tried repeatedly to get this taken care of, to no avail.

I recently stumbled across the National Student Loan Data System online (http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/) and my report page on this University loan showed clearly when it had been consolidated, etc. It showed every tiny little thing about that loan.

So I sent that report to the University collections office and let them know it was showing up as a collection on two of my credit reports, even though it was rolled into my other loans two years prior to their claim that they had to send it to collections.

I was very happy to get a FAST response back from them, saying: “What I will do is delete this loan (PER24A) from your credit report.  The first delinquency was more than 7 years ago therefore should not be on your credit report anyway.  All credit reporting agencies will be notified via Automated Universal Data form. I will send you a verification form stating that the deletion has been requested.  Would you like this verification by email or snail mail?”

This really made my day. She was efficient, respectful and knowlegeable. I wish every lender/CA was this good to deal with.

[Edited to add: The form says that all FOUR CRAs will be notified, including Innovis. I've never even heard of them.]

Hi again all,

This year I really want to make a vested effort to remove the financial and emotional stress placed upon myself for actions I did at my youth, and I’d very much appreciate your input.

In the Fall of 2008 I enrolled in a university, after attending for a short time an unfortunate and detrimental event occured that caused me to lose a sense of reality and the obligations required of myself.  Now I look back at that event and the damage it has caused.

I have a debt of tution for the university that has since been placed into collections, the name of the company creates the apperance that it is a law firm, but they are considered a “educational debt recovery” company.

They’ve made contact with me, but from my own research they have not reported this debt to any credit bureau.  On top of the debt they have placed a “collection fee” for the services rendered with assumingly an agreement they have with the university.

I want them to take the consideration that I truly want to make the effort to correct this mistake, but want to see if it’s possible to receive some type of benefit for ensuring satisfaction of the debt. I know I am not owed anything, but am curious what y’alls opinions are.

I want to offer them the exact amount of tuition owed to the university, not including the amount they have placed on top of the debt.  But was wondering if it is a possibility to include an agreement that would allow for the “Retroactive Registration” of the semester to which this occured.  I cannot continue my education without first resolving this.  And if questioning, I am requesting the “Retroactive Registration” for my failure to drop the courses.

Again, I thank you for reading this and for any insight or opinion that can be provided.

An analysis by Robert Novy-Marx of the University of Rochester and Joshua Rauh of the Kellogg School of Management finds that public pension plans for America’s 50 biggest cities and counties are underfunded by $382 billion–or $14,000 for every household in those same cities. Some of the biggest plans may run out of money to pay promised benefits in as little as five to eight years.

Hello.. I went to the university of akron in 1991 and had an outstanding debt for not dropping classes on time. For the last 2 years the Ohio Att. Gen has been offsetting my state tax refund paying this debt. When I contacted the OAG they told me they recieved the debt in 2000. I contacted the school for further info and was told the debt was sent to the OAG after the school went to a new accounting system.

My questions are can they still collect on a debt so old? and can the school report the debt to the state for the year 2000 and not the correct year 1991.

This is not on any of my credit reports.

Thanks

Hi.

I am trying to figure out why my EQ & TU FICO (true not FAKO) are SOOO different..Nearly 100 point difference with little difference in what is reported. I know I have one error on EQ  that should fall off in a couple of days which is a collection that was put on by my university in error. This collection was from ’09 though. I just had 3 collections come of EQ this week that were put on in ’10 and my score increased about 67 pts.

When my lien was reported paid & released on TU my score increased about 35 points a couple of months ago (EQ is not reporting this lien YAY!).

I am looking for causes of this point difference and I am wondering if it could have anything to do with the one and only tax lien that is being reported by EQ. EQ has it reported as below:

Date Filed: 03/2007
Case Number:
Court Number/Name:
Court Address:
Amount: $24,000
Class: VF/ Federal
Date Reported: N/A
Lien Status:
Date Released: 05/2008
Date Verified: 06/2010
Comments:

I am wondering if lien status should be filled in-that is why I disputed before because it was paid and it was blank. It immediately came back verified. Could this be hurting my score?

If not, I will keep going through this report line by line to try to find out what may be causing this. I know scoring models are different but ?!?!?!!!  Thanks!!

Has anyone had luck with a goodwill letter to University Federal Credit Union in Austin, TX? I have one 30-day and one 60-day late payment in over 10 years of an otherwise spotless record. The lates happened because my auto-deduction system got disabled because of insufficient funds at one point and it took me until the second late payment to realize and fix the problem.

I have tried writing a goodwill letter requesting them to remove the lates, but they refused. Has anyone else had success with them recently? Has persisting helped?

Two years ago I graduated from a community college with my associates degree. I moved on to a four year university and continued to request student loans. The university I suppose never transfered my papers to the loan company so for some reason I was seen in default,I was not. I continue to be a student. The student loan department agreed that this was their error and I have emails stating this. I have since graduated from the University with my Bachelors and am continuing with my Masters. I am going on 2 plus years with the help of the student loan company and continual disputes with the two reporting agencies. These errors are affecting my credit scores. Experian shows me at 700 plus the other two at 600 give or take. What do I do now? How do I make them see and correct the error?

I a frustrated and confused and do not know how to solve the problem.
