Just wanted to add another quick post to the RJM Acquisitions success stories that I’ve been seeing around the forums.

I made some impatient mistakes on this one and still managed to get a PFD on only 39% of the original balance of $1650.  Here’s the story:

$1650 on an overdrawn and closed Washington Mutual checking account and still 6 months inside of SOL.  I should have waited until I was clear of SOL but I was excited from some of the things I’ve read on the forums about RJM (namely, that they are really easy to work with).  I sent an email DV to two addresses I found from googling “RJM Acquisitions email” and received a response 2 days later verifying the debt and suggesting I pay the full amount.

I immediately responded with an emailed PFD offering $650, and received a settlement confirmation PDF indicating that they will delete all negative reporting once they receive my payment of $650!  Couldn’t have been easier!

I’ll update with more info once I make the payment.

I read somewhere else on here (credit card section) that FICO likes to see one account with a $0 balance and other accounts with the reccomended 0-9% util.

This is a good little tid bit. What other things like this (secrets?) does FICO like other than the obvious “pay your bills” and “keep util under 20%?”

thanks!

PS- because of that info I paid my one card down to zero and let the others report a balance. Still not sure which is better- $0 balance or a couple bucks.

Ok, so I recognize that this sounds like a dumb question, but I’m trying to understand how to approach this. I have 3 major credit cards that I’ve had between 4-10 years. All of them have a good payment history, but they have been nearly maxed out since I first got them (racked it up in college, 6 years later I haven’t yet paid them down – working on it now though!) As a result, the limits on them are all small, between $1000 and $2500. They are all still at the original limits that were given to me and none of the CCC have offered to raise my balance nor have I ever asked. I assume the CCC have never increased them because they’ve been maxed out.

So here’s the question… what does a lender look at when a request to increase a limit is made? I am assuming they look at 1) individual card history (payment history, balance history, etc) and 2) overall credit history/score…  but what else?

One of the things I think is hurting my score (and overall financial health) is that my credit cards have low limits. Therefore, one of the things I would like to do over the next 12-24 months (in addition to paying the cards off) is get the balances increased.

Advice please!!

If i have some things on my credit report that show as paid but is still visible on my credit report to resolve this. Do I just create a dispute on the things that need to be removed, or corrected. My current job and addresses on the different credit bureaus are form jobs I had 5+ years ago. Will this raise my score?

How is it legal for Experian to deny us access to the same credit scores that lenders use to judge us? For all the things that went into the new credit protection law, why would this get overseen?

I am trying desperately to imprive my credit, though it’s a tough job thanks to a handful of student loan charge-offs from late 2009.

One of the things I am considering is closing a few credit cards. I have 6 total and the two newest ones are a total waste – a furniture store card ($2500 limit) and a Capital One ($750 limit). By closing them, I would actually increase the average age of my accounts, bt of course, I would then have less credit available total – from $8500 in credit card lines to $5250 in credit card lines. What would increase my credit score more:

1) getting rid of two low limit cards that are more recent; or

2) keeping the cards to show a higher total amount in credit extended to me?

I am doing this in preparation for a home loan in about 9 months.

Thanks!

My hubby had a bank of America secured and we ended up not being able to keep up with payments but with our income tax we paid it off, is there anyway to have this removed from the report as bad or do we just have to wait till it comes off?

We also have a 600.00 baddie that is on the report with a CA, but I know who the OC is, can I contact the OC to try to make payment arrangements?

Other things on his report are small amounts and are easy for us to PIF, can I just send a PFD to the CA or contact the OC and do a PFD?

I just wanna go as simple as possible, I know all on the report is ours, we just didn’t have the means to keep up with things and now we are in a better place to get things on track. As there any reason that I should not pay/contact the CA? Age? We also have 3 medical one which has been paid but still there how do we handle that?

Well, 57 days after paying them the CA finally agrees that I did pay them.  When I asked what happened, why did it take so long for you to agree that I paid?  I was told, “Well sir, it was a hiccup in the internet. These things happen.”  The guy I talked to sounded just like Eeyore.

Being an IT Professional for over 15 years I can tell you that these don’t happen.  If the data is there now it was there 57 days ago.

On other things…

Thanks so much to all who post here. I have learned so much.  And my scores have increased an average of 70 points in the last 60 days!

Thanks again.

Is a judgement the same as being sued? I was just thinking of my ER bill that is over $5k. No help from the hospital despite them sending it to a CA while I still had a due by date and going through assistance program eligibility. I’m more worried on the things that are reporting at the moment. Thinking of a way to pay this big bill as an afterthought. It’s from June 2008, not reported to any CR that I have seen. What category will that bill be placed in under SOL for NV? Is it written? I can’t remember signing anything, probably did… If it does happen to go out of SOL before I get it taken care of and before I get any recent communication from anyone, will they still be able to come and do a judgement with garnishment of wages? I do mean to make good on this particular bill, but the amount is far too high, and if it does hit my reports I’d be looking at BK.

Just a question I was pondering tonight. It’s freaking me out! Thanks
