Hi Forum,

My situation is I have a 120 day late with Sallie Mae while I was deployed in Afghanistan. I made the mistake of not enrolling to auto pay and wasn’t able to make any payments for the first few months while in theater. I recently read about the Heroes Act of 2003 and hope this might help my credit.

I was deployed from MAY 09 to NOV 09

Sallie Mae

90 Day Late JUN 09

120 Day Late JUL 09

Ive been on time with payments since then, making it over a year now. Does anyone know how Sallie Mae usually handle these cases?

I’m sure they will need my deployment orders which I should be able to get from S-1.

I think I said earlier – I paid off three small bills with AFNI last week before I read a bit here on the forum. They were very old debts that I probably should not have paid — as are most of my debts from CAs. CC bills and old cell phone/pager bills from college. From what I have read, I am feeling like I should write DV (?) letters requesting validation of those debts as I (a) am nearly certain the SOL has expired on many of them, and (b) am not entirely certain all of them are mine.

Is that the right course of action in these cases? Also, can any of these letters be sent via email or fax? GW letters can go email or fax, right? I suppose with a DV letter I’d want the paper trail, so it’s CMRRR for those?
