How long does it take for a paid collection to come off your credit report? Is there anyway that you can speed up the process? And how much does your score improve after having them removed? Thanks

In the process of rebuilding my credit I opened a Kay Jewelers store card (5k limit). Recently I heard Clark Howard say a store card can actually HURT credit score. Should I close it?

I received my pre-approval on a home and have 2 outstanding judgments that need to be paid.

My questions are.

Is there a process I should be following when contacting the companies/ law offices that took the judgment out on me?

Is there a process that I should follow to negotiate with them?

Would the process differ since I am going to be getting a home and would not pay the debt until the closing of the home? Or do I pay it prior to closing.

Right now I have about $3000 that I can use to pay the judgment. Both judgment are for approximately $3500 a piece.

Can I get these deleted or vacated in the state of Iowa if the judgments were from about 5 years ago?

Anyone’s help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I am in the process of sending out DV letter, and I got a letter in the mail from a creditor that says they will settle a $770.65 balance I owe to bank of america for $308.26. should I send them a pfd letter with the 308.26 amount?

the letter is a tax season offer special, lol

Hi All,

I have four pay for delete collection.  How long will it take for these items to drop from my credit report?

And is there anything I can do to speed up the process?  Maybe contact the credit bureau?

After lurking for a few months, I had to join today to share my good news.  I am in the process of fixing my credit.  I have one credit care Premier, and yes it sucks.  However I paid my bill in full last month and the previous month.  I ran my updated credit score today and guess what?  My score jumped 71 pts.  I am so freaking happy.

Hi, I’m in the process of rebuilding my credit and I’ve written tons of GW letters and actually have succeeded in having items (mostly collections) removed from my credit report/s, however there are some companies that just refuse to remove anything. Is there anything else I can do to remove them and increase my scores? Thanks in advance.

I reached out to one of my creditors that I had not paid in about 3 years where they had not yet referred to a CA.  It turns out that they are in the process of hiring a CA for their unpaid accounts.  Good timing!  I requested a settlement and they agreed to roughly half of the balance down from over $1k to $523.  I’ll be sending certified funds as soon as the offer letter hits my mailbox.  Since they’re local I may just go in to the office and take care of it tomorrow (after they hand me an offer letter, of course).  I’ll be asking for a letter indicating the debt was satisfied.  This is one less derog to worry about.  I have about two more of these that are small and not yet referred to CA.  Will be looking for a similar resolution on those accounts in the near future.  Progress!  I love it!!

I’m in the process of consolidating my loans…just curious as to how long before I see the change on my report.

Thanks!
