First off I’d like to say thank you to everyone in this forum. I haven’t been a member long but I’ve spent a lot of time reading trying to rebuilding my credit and I now know the importance of it. Since I officially joined the forum in past week I looked at my credit reports and I’ve made a plan of action. In reading my credit reports I found that I had a closed citi bank credit card that had adverse information that was still reporting. It wasn’t until a couple of night I ago I started thinking about when I actually had a citi bank credit card….. Then it dawned on me I never actually had one, EVER! Then I started thinking years ago when I was with an ex of mine she mentioned that she was going to add me as an authorized user on her account. This was probably back in 2003, long story short we broke up and I never thought about it. All these years I had ding  from citi and I didn’t even know. This showed me the importance of going through your credit reports thoroughly and carefully.

With the advices of people on this forum I’ve disputed citi and BofA on the premises of  “not my accounts” because I was only an authorized user, so I’m pretty confident those will get taken care of. Then I had a few other paid-CA’s, that are still reporting but its been the midway point as they are expected to fall off in 2012 and 2013. I wrote GW letters and hopefully they’ll budge and delete them. I know that its difficult  now because they are in the position of power because they’ve been paid. But I was honest in the letters I wrote, so I’m optimistic. I’ll keep you all posted. If all goes we I should be well on my way to 700 by then end of the year.

Back in 2002 my a**hole mother opened up a credit card for Fashon Bug in my name with out my knowledge. I didn’t find out till a couple of years ago after it had been charged off and sold to a collection agency. Only last year did I really start paying attention to my credit and start to clean it up, so I just paid the collection. Unfortunately at the time I wasn’t very educated on credit and the importance of it. There are 2 accounts on my Experian report that are listed as “Legally paid in full for less than the full balance ” for this Fashon Bug account.  I’m guessing one was the original and the other one is the collection.  For some reason its showing the DOFD is only in 2009 which is totally wrong. The actual DOFD was in April of 2003 which would explain why these accounts are no longer on my Equifax and TransUnion reports. So my question is what is the best way to go about getting this off of  my Experian report? Do I dispute it because it wasn’t actually my debt or did I already take on responsibility for the debt because I paid the collection? Or do I dispute the DOFD issue. What do you think the easiest most affective way to handle this?

Greetings to all of my fellow adventurers:

I am new to the forums and after a long while of rebuilding my credit on my own, I have hit a snag. In college they handed out credit cards like lollipops and I partook of the goodness. Once I left school, I realized the mistakes I’d made and made an effort to rebuild my credit. Starting in the low 500′s I took steps to raise my scores enough to purchase a home and a car. Since then I’ve had some dings as a result of being lazy and ignoring things that could have easily been taken care of. Now my scores have dropped again and I’m ashamed of myself. I want to do better while I don’t need credit.

My focus is on joining the 700 club.

Here is my picture:

Since obtaining these scores from MYFICO, I have paid off two credit card balances of $500 on a $600 limit and a secured card of $100 on a $300 limit. I have a $2000 balance on a $2700 limit that I am gnawing away at now. I think I should either close the secured card or send in money to raise the limit. Not sure which.

I have 3 collections. One is a paid medical of $120. I plan on GW the OC that I paid.  One is $211 from AT&T from 2004 that I will attempt to PFD to the CA. The third is a $58 paid utility that I plan on GW to the OC.

I have two 30 day lates on a deferred student loan. I took a semester off to have my daughter and the loans went into repayment. I plan on GW this too.

As you can see, this is all really petty stuff. I just wasn’t taught about the importance of credit and so I didn’t take steps to protect mine. If a company made me mad, I just wouldn’t pay them. Now I know who gets hurt the most in that game.

Please let me know what steps you think I should take that may help.
