I recently disputed some personal info on my reports. I asked them to delete an old address (they had “10″ for the apartment number, not “104″ – well, they had 3 listings for this address, one without the apartment number, one with the 10, and one with the correct number), delete a phone number I no longer have, and to delete a name that isn’t mine. It’s a common misspelling. I didn’t ask them to delete any of their other versions of my name – they had me as Firstname Lastname, Firstname Middle Initial Lastname, Firstname Middlename Lastname, and as Firstname Middle Initial Misspelled Lastname. Why can they so easily fix the address and the phone number but I can’t seem to even find out if they’re going to delete the wrong name?Â
I have a bit of a dilemma and want to avoid collections hitting my report. I have a large dental bill and my old apartment complex decided to charge me a huge amount to break my lease when I just bought my house a couple of months ago.

I did not know of the dental bill until a month ago (or that the insurance had finally paid everything and now I needed to pay immediately) and as far as the apartment goes, they took over a month to give me the summary of charges I owed after moving out. So I have been able to avoid collections for a short minute. I think I have a couple weeks before I would received any kind of notice or anything would be sent there.

I will be able to pay these amounts in full, but not for a few weeks.

My question is, if these are turned over to a CA, will they post immediately to my credit or do I have a time frame in which to pay? And also, if they do hit collections and I DV, would I have another 30 days in which to pay?

Any help would be appreciated. I had a bit of a setback, but its looking good in the months to come.

I had terminated a lease back in 2006 because I lost my job and needed to take another in a different city. I notified my apartment complex and on moving day I went into the office, turned in my keys, and they told me everything was in order. The office had my phone number and a forwarding address and I never heard form them again. Earlier this year (4 years later after moving out) I pulled my credit report and noticed a collection for $1,050.00 and the original creditor was the apartment complex. I called the manager and she dug through their records to find that when I signed the lease they had offered a free month rent that was pro-rated over the term of my lease and after I moved out I had to pay that amount back. Since I was never notified I was shocked to find out I had this collection. I paid the full amount the same week (this year) directly to the apartment complex and have been messing with the collection agency for the past 6 months trying to get them to report it correctly on my credit report.
Is the original creditor (my old apartment complex) required to notify me of a debt before turning it over to a collection agency? I contacted the apartment manager to see if they would take it off my credit since I was never notified and I was prompt in paying the balance once I found out but I have not heard back from them.

In December of 2008 I moved out of my apartment and left without a concern because I had paid a non-refundable deposit. Well the apartment said I stained the carpet and said I owed $200 for the stained carpet. They sent a letter about the debt to an incorrect address so I never got the letter. It wasn’t until I checked my credit report 3 months later and saw a collection on it that I found out. I went to the apartment complex and I was told that they had switched management and that my non-refundable deposit was suppose to be refunded to me (it never was) and that was why I owed the money. Well I paid the money to the apartment complex but it still shows up on my credit report as a collection paid in full and hurting my score. I spoke with the collection agency and they said if I explained my story to the credit agency then it would come off my credit report but that they couldn’t take it off themselves. Is this true? How should I word the letter? It only shows up on TU and EQ

I co-signed a lease for an apartment for my stepson in August of 2006. During the first night of occupancy, he violated the lease and was “evicted” the next day. The apartment complex owners wanted full payment for the entire year ($8300) and we refused to pay.

For many years, nothing really happened with the exception of my stepson receiving occasional credit collection letters which we disputed by asking for validation on the basis of proof that they had not re-rented the apartment during the year and thereby possibly were collecting double-rent which is illegal in the state of CO.

The CA never provided proof that the apartment was not rented again. They simply provided a statement showing that he owed the money as well as a copy of the lease.

In November of 2009, I found the TL on my CR marked as in dispute even though I was never notified that they were going to put something on my CR. (I did receive a letter 20 months ago, but asked for DV which I never received.)

In January 2010, I did lots of research and found the following problems with the CA tactics. (The CA is National Credit Systems in Atlanta, GA.):
1. They never notified me before putting the TL on my CR.
2. They re-aged the debt by 15 months – the DOLA should be 09/2006 but is not set as 12/2007.
3. They have not provided the proper DV – in short, they haven’t shown that the room wasn’t rented out again during the period of the lease.

I hired a lawyer to research and send a letter to National Credit stating that they had not proven the debt and had violated the FCRA. National Credit responded with the same bogus paperwork in February 2010. They also offered to settle at 25% off the original amount.

I called the CA in March and tried to negotiate something better but was thoroughly ineffective. In addition, I caught the CA “specialist” pretending to be 2 separate people with 2 different names. In fact, he sent me 2 letters with 2 names but the same signature.

I don’t know where to go at this point. My credit score has gone from 800+ to 690. I don’t want to pay $300/hr to a lawyer to file a lawsuit, but also don’t want to pay the CA anything considering what crooks they are.  Anything thoughts about what I should do next?

Another question, if I pay this bogus debt, will it actually improve my credit score again or am I screwed for a while no matter what?

I previously lived in a very nice neighborhood in the Baltimore metro area. I signed a 1 year lease. A few months before the lease ended I received a letter stating that it was time to go over options if I renew the lease. My rent was going to increase almost $100 per month, so I told the manager that I would have to think about it. I found a wonderful house for the same price that my rent was going to be on my apartment so I decided I was going with the house. I never signed a new lease. I gave a written notice of my move out, it was left in the night drop box so there is no proof of my leaving it there. Now the apartment management company is telling me that I owe them $5600-1600(deposit)=$4000 for breaking the lease and that if I dont pay it this month that they are sending it to a CA. I emailed their main office stating that I never renewed my lease and that I want proof that I did, but this was a few weeks ago and I never got a responce. Has anyone else been through this? I have been rebuilding my credit for a year now and just today got myfico alert saying that I have reached a score of 600. When I first started the proscess I was in the 400′s. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had an outstanding debt from an apartment I used to live in. I disagreed with the amount and would not pay the amount requested. After 1 year, I finally got someone to look at my account from the apartment and they agreed to correct the amount to a reasonable and correct amount. I promptly paid after the amount was corrected with the understanding it would be removed from my credit. Now, four months later, it is still on my credit as a derogatory item, but it does show paid. How can I get this removed. I have disputed this with the credit reporting agencies, but they just put in Other remarks: Account information disputed by consumer
