In April of 2006 I received a notice that I owed taxes for the state of Kansas in the amount of $11,516. This was a little surprising because I am active duty military and while I did spend 8 years in Kansas, my state of legal residence was Idaho and therefore I did not pay KS taxes. I went round and round with the state over this and finally figured out that I owed approximately $400 for taxes from my wife’s employment in the state. I agreed with those charges and paid them in full. However, apparently at the same time I received the notice, the state filed a petition and filed a tax lien. So now, even though it was paid in full for $400 my credit report shows a tax lien in the amount of $11,516. So do I have any recourse to get this removed? I no longer live in Kansas (moved in 2004) and I’m deploying to Afghanistan in a few months so I would not have time to go to court in Kansas. Worst case is I have to wait two years until April 2013 to get this removed I guess.

Ok let me start off by saying I make no income I am a stay at home mom and my husband is the sole income provider. Back when I was not married in 2003 I got approved for a chase credit card for $7000 well I maxed it out and was very irresponsible. Fast forward to this year and they are attempting to garnish our state income tax according to the state tax representative that I called there is a garnishment in my name for midland/37th district court. This is were I am wondering how they can do this. the SOL is out, its over BUT midland is on my report as saying opened in 2008 with the 13k balance (7k  then you add  interests and fees) even though the originial chase debt says 2003 so how they can start the SOL over if I have not spoken with them? How is this legal? And how are they attempting to garnish our state taxes when i have no judgements on my report can they still attempt to garnish without a judgement or without serving me? They are wasting their time because according to the garnishment department with the state of michigan they will find out that they cannot have any of the money because I made none and have no assets. I just feel like they are being so shady with having the date say 2008 where do I report this? Will they attempt to garnish every year even without a judgement?

Hello all,

I’m new to all of this and not only am I lost in the jargon, I am completely assbackwards in where to look or what applies to me.

I’m trying to find out if MCM is licensed/bonded in my state? I’m in AZ, the only thing I found was on BBB they are bonded in California. Does that mean they are here too?

Also, is there a rookie page? How to get started on getting my stuff back on the right page?

Thanks in advance.

So I’ve looked around the web and here at myfico for information abt SOL’s for this and havent been able to find anything rock solid so my situation is this:  Recieved a notice from the state of oklahoma saying I owed adjustment taxes from a 2004 tax return, the adjustments were made after being reported by the IRS to the state (5/2005).  I had to pay the federal side of it years ago but OK waited until now to send me a bill, I called the tax commision and they said its being handled by NCO financial services.  I call NCO (didn’t want to) and they say they are in the same building with the OK tax commision and that I can pay either them or the tax commision for the debt.  I said I would be happy to pay however I need some documentation that it will not be reported to the big 3, she tells me they will not report it only the state will and that no form exists to assure me of it not being reported.  So now I am deciding on if its smart to pay this and let it possibly ding my credit or if there is a SOL and when it would run out.  I’ve worked hard to rebuilt my credit the past 3 years from a 580 score to the mid 700′s and I rly don’t want a new collections acct to show up.  Thanks for any advice on this and sorry if I overlooked a thread that may have information on this matter.

If anyone could give my some insight, I’d truly appreciate it.

I currently have a state tax lien on my credit report for about $2,100. It is for “unpaid” taxes from 2005, however these taxes were most definitely paid through my weekly paychecks. I did not realize at the time that when I filed my taxes online (e-file) that I was only filing federal taxes, not state taxes. I was young and didn’t understand, but I know that is just an excuse and doesn’t mean much.

I was completely unaware that there were ANY issues with my taxes until I got a myFICO alert in August of 2010 that a lien was placed on my credit report. I’ve worked for the last several years to rebuild my credit and thank god, purchased my home shortly before the lien was put on my report. The problem was, the state was sending all of the information regarding any proceedings to the address I lived in 2005. I’ve since lived in different locations and although I changed my address legally, had NO IDEA anything was going on until I saw this on my credit report.

I’ve since contacted the state, sent them a revised tax return, etc. I’ve taken all avenues to rectify the situation and am now waiting. Every time I call they tell me they are “behind” (naturally) and have received, but not yet reviewed, my information. I know it will be proven that I’ve paid my taxes, but is there any hope of having this removed from my credit report once everything is settled with the state? I am sick over this whole situation.

Thanks so much.
