Ok, so I was in credit jail for a loooong time. Magically, I must of hit the required number of years that enacted a credit “do over”. In other words, I’ve been wiped clean other than 1 collection from a Dr’s office from 3 years ago, in the amt. of $180. and a car loan I took out in June 2009, which is in excellent standing, paid on time every time.
Â
Remaining balance on car loan is approx. $7300.
Â
I earn approx. 70,000 a yr.
Â
Equifax Fico : 632 ( as of 3/23/10)
TransUnion Fico : 655 (as of 1/14/10)
Â
Experian Fico: Screw you Experian, because I can’t get it from you. You can take your “Plus Score” and shove it where the sun don’t shine.
Â
Here’s the crux: I have no credit cards, due to the fact that I couldn’t get approved for any for such a long time. It was a complete surprise to me when I got my free credit reports back in January, and it showed all 3 reports wiped clean ( and still does). I had been so used to being in the “credit doghouse”, that now I’m not quite sure what to do.
Â
On the one hand, My Fico has improved because the slate has been wiped clean. On the other, it is damaged because it only shows a short credit history.
Â
I also show no revolving (cc) accounts. From what I read, this hurts my score, but If I apply for a cc that too lowers my score. And If I do apply for a cc, I don’t want to risk getting denied!
Â
What is my best course of action to raise my scores so that I can eventually get a reasonable mortage within the next year or so?
Â
Thanks in advance,
Vikki
