Hey All,
Â
I am looking for some advice on what I should do.
Â
I recently did a credit report and found that I had a collection on my account for 42$ (54$ with collection agency fees.) Apparently the letters got lost when my wife and I moved from Virginia to Oregon for graduate school and our mail was being forwarded to an unreliable in-law for about 4-5 months while we looked for a place to live and did a cross country tour.
Â
I don’t know if it matters but I had some dental work done and I paid the entire amount that I received a quote for but the insurance company decided to pay slightly less than they preapproved me for so the dentist decided I owed the $42 that metlife wasn’t going to pay. I had the dentist get me pre-approved with my insurance company for how much they would cover and give me a written quote on my share.
Â
Even though I am in the right, I didn’t feel like fighting the charge (and I don’t know how) for only $54 so I sent a letter to the collection agency offering to pay the amount if they delete it from my credit score.
Â
Today I received a letter back from IC Systems (The collection agency) saying they will not delete it off my record but once I pay it I can send a letter to the reporting agencies explaining why I paid late.
Â
Thanks in advance for any help and advice.
