Dear Forum Members,

I have been writing a settlement offer letter to a collection agency once a month for the past 4 months, and they have not answered any of these letters.  I have proof of their receiving them, and I am able to see who signed for them.  For this reason I obviously know they are just ignoring my letters.

I was thinking of writing a letter to them basically saying the following:

“I see you have received my settlement letters on (date), and I would like to thank you for not rejecting my offer.  It is nice to see a company working with a client in such a bad economic environment.  I just wanted to let you know that I have the amount of money listed in my settlement letter that you did not reject waiting to be sent to you for settlement on this account.  As the settlement letter stated, I just need a letter sent to me on your company letterhead stating the offer that you received from me. Thank you again for not rejecting the offer.’

I know this letter is choppy, but it is a really rough draft which I hope to get your thoughts on.  My hope is to get a response from them, or at least have ammunition showing a court (if they ever sue me) that I have reached out numerous times without a response from them to work out the debt.

Thank you.

They’re offering me a settlement of $1,000 on a card that has a balance of $3,000. They’re emailing me the offer, which will expire on 2/28/11. They seemed pretty OK on the phone, but the intenet search I did didn’t reveal too much about them or nearly any reviews.

So my soon to be wife just got an offer from a CA to settle her debt for 60% of the orginial debt.  My question is, should I tell her to attempt to contact the CC first or take advantage of this offer?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I’ve been pre-qualified for a HSBC orchard bank card but I’m hesitant to accept the offer because I just recently recieved a Cap1 secured card (hasn’t even reported yet). Is it too soon to get another or should I go ahead and accept the offer? I plan on applying for a mortgage soon also but my loan officer said not to worry about the accounts being new because we would use alternatives to achieve the tradelines needed open for at least 12 months.

I reached out to one of my creditors that I had not paid in about 3 years where they had not yet referred to a CA.  It turns out that they are in the process of hiring a CA for their unpaid accounts.  Good timing!  I requested a settlement and they agreed to roughly half of the balance down from over $1k to $523.  I’ll be sending certified funds as soon as the offer letter hits my mailbox.  Since they’re local I may just go in to the office and take care of it tomorrow (after they hand me an offer letter, of course).  I’ll be asking for a letter indicating the debt was satisfied.  This is one less derog to worry about.  I have about two more of these that are small and not yet referred to CA.  Will be looking for a similar resolution on those accounts in the near future.  Progress!  I love it!!
