If my credit report has a note saying a negative account will remove 09/2010 does that mean it should be gone starting in September, or that September will be the last month it shows up on my report?

I had an account with a CA for about $111 for a final gas bill I never received. I sent a short, standard PFD note saying I didn’t acknowledge I owned the debt, but would be fine paying it if they’d remove it from my CR.

Today, I got a packet from the original creditor (SoCal Gas) with a ton of stuff to fill out to verify my claim of identity theft….???

What should I do? There’s an 800 number I can call – I certainly wasn’t claiming identity theft.
