While I have learned a lot on this forum I still have a ways to go.  Not sure if I potentially hurt my score or not. I had a Cap 1 charged off account from 2007. Was purchased by a CA. The CA hadn’t reported on my Credit report so thought would be safe to just pay it. Got the thank you/receipt letter and it said that account would be reported as paid in full by federal law.. Scared that a new collection being reported, even one paid will hurt my score.. So the question is, if they report this will it lower my score?
I recently sent a DV letter to a collection agency, a week later a new collection agency pulled my credit with a hard inquiry. Can I get this deleted? I gave no authorization. Is this hard to get deleted? Should I dispute with Equifax or the actual collection agency. I doubt they would pull it back…
I have a credit card that was sent to collections but the debt collector has not reported on my credit report. I want to get the balance off my original credit card but i do not want to risk calling the collection agency and getting a new collection account. What should i do since I want to have the original account to show up as paid but don’t want the collection agency to report to my credit report
I just pulled my credit report from TU and there is a new collection reporting from AIS Services. I called them and they told me it was for a pay day loan. I am pretty sure I paid them years ago, but non the less they are not licensed and illegal. She told me I can dispute it through the CA or pay in full and they will delete. IF I dispute it, what is the best approach and what do I say?
Hi all. A new collection just showed up in my credit report, dropping credit score 24 points. I will close next week so I am freakin out. Is there anything I could do at this stage before the second credit check? The debt is not mine. Can I start a dispute? It is showing up only in TU. How fast is TU in resolving disputes? Thanks in advance for any inputs.Â

Hello everyone!
Â
I am mostly a lurker here, but I have gained so much insight on credit reporting and how to repair credit from these boards. It’s astonishing.Â
Â
My husband’s credit report showed a BMG music collection account for $155 through National Credit Solutions with a beginning date of 08/2009. This was incorrect and I was infuriated because we have been doing so good the last two years with no new collection accounts. After lurking around these boards for a few days and learning about debt validation letters, I sent my own debt validation request to them on August 12, and received a letter back from them today stating they could not validate this debt and were ceasing all collection attempts and removing this item from all 3 of my husband’s credit reports. What’s peculiar is that from 08/2009, we never received a single letter from NCS about this account. It just showed up out of nowhere. I googled their company and it seems like a lot of people have this same issue with them. Obviously it is some sort of scam.

We are hoping for a mortgage loan through USDA, and it is such a relief to get this cleared up. I would have just paid this off to get rid of it if I didn’t find these boards.

I just received a TC update that indicated that 4 new derogs hit my account this week – all from Check Services USA. Now, I’m pretty sure that these are my debts, and would like to take care of them, but does anyone out there know if I HAVE to in order for them to come off of my report? The checks are dated 12/27/03, 12/28/03, 01/24/04 and 02/12/04. I live in TX where the SOL is 4 years. Does this simply mean that they can’t sue me after 4 years or does that mean that they can’t continue to report after 4 years? Could I attempt to pay the original debtor directly and if they accept payment, can Check Services still report?

Hi All,
Well what do you know, just as I am right in the middle of applying for a mortgage a new collection pops up out the blue! It is for $176. the original creditor is municipal court (I believe this is a very old traffic citation that is just now coming back to haunt me). What should I do? Should i send a DV letter? should I PIF the CA? I am not sure that i can do anything with the OC considering that it is a court system. Any advice on getting this deleted is greatly appreciated. Also if I dispute the item will it not be counted in my fico scoring during the dispute process?
Â
Thanks!

I just checked my credit report today and found a new collection account from a doctors office listed on my report.  This states that it was from 2005 and is now being collected through an agency.  I received the one and only phone call I have ever received about this last night. I returned the call and left a message, but as of yet have not heard back from them. I have never received anything in the mail about this.  I have no idea what to do !  Do I pay it, or will that keep it as a negative mark on my report for another 7 years.  It has dropped my credit score which I have been trying to rebuild.
