I recently paid off some collections that were due to credit cards my sister opened in my name and failed to pay.  After I paid them off, I sent GW letters to the OCs, explaining what happened and asking them to remove the negative remarks since I paid the collection.

Today I got a phone call from GEMB/Walmart.  The automated message said they received my letter and they would have the issue resolved within 14 days.  No more detail than that.  Do you think that means they are going to remove the negative marks from the CRAs?  Has anyone else had a similar experience with receiving a phone call like this after sending in a GW?

Hi, I’m 24 and looking to rebuild my credit. In less than a month, I have to apply to rent a $1,800/month place and I am extremely worried that my credit score could cause me to be rejected from renting. It would be with my BF (he has an 800 credit score), so that’s actually $900/month for my part of the rent and I have very little other expenses. I earn $40,000/year so that seems pretty affordable to me (I’m from NYC and going to be renting in Atlanta) and can put down a down payment and first month’s rent easily. My credit score is only 615 (Equifax) and unfortunately I have some issues with delinquencies from my wilder days. I have three credit cards that I paid off completely in 2006/2007 that are still showing as negative marks on my report because I had delinquencies on them before I paid them off in full. Is there anyway to get those negative marks removed?

I also have one debt that went into collection with Midland after 4 years. If I pay it off – will that raise my score quickly?

I need to try to get my score up about 20-30 points in a month – is that even possible? I don’t want to risk losing out on living in a great place just because of my wild college days.

So im beginning to understand how goodwill letters work by reading old threads but they pretty much are all phrased or are talking about a solitary bad mark being fixed…Is it still possible to send a goodwill letter if you have many major (90+, 120+, 180+) negative marks on your accounts? How would you word it?

Basically like “hi, i went through a really bad period of time personally and financially and was just wondering if you could take off a bunch of the negatives…? k,thanx! bye!”

I dono why but im not totally sure that will work…? I have 3 accounts total in my life….all with baddies from that certain bad period…one of them is now closed but paid in full. The other two are open but definitely have some baddies…

Any suggestions about how to phrase it for this type of situation or another method to try?

thanks
