I recently listened to Suze Orman on display, if the mortgage, insurance and property taxes, over 31% of your income, you can ask your bank to cut interest rates. This is true, if there is no gain?

An all too familiar story has a happy ending
WINTER HAVEN – Steve Robinson easily remembers the date of Jan. 9, 2009. He went to work that morning just as he had for the past 33 years, only to find that he no longer had a job. The company where he had worked all of his adult life had made changes and his position was no longer needed.

From reading the boards, I really thought I would get denied for this card.  I applied anyway, because, like many on here, I was attracted by the 5% rewards.  My plan was to use the card for all my bills, etc and PIF each month.  I applied online, got the old 5-7 day message and within about 20 minutes received a call from one of their CSRs who wanted to confirm my information.  We moved about 5 months ago so that’s why I’m guessing they wanted to verify.  She asked questions about my last address, etc, then said they were looking to approve my account and put me on hold for a few minutes.  She came back and said I was approved.  I was so surprised I didn’t even ask what my CL was.  My fiance applied for a card as well and he was approved for a CL of $1,500 with his 700-750 credit scores.  My scores are mid to high 600′s so I thought my line would be the same or less.  I get the card today and to my utter astonishment, my line is $8,000!  Whoa.  It doesn’t really matter because I am definitely not even thinking of "racking it up," except to PIF every month.  I was absolutely floored, and excited.  After I have some history with them, I know it will definitely help my score.  Question for those who PIF – is it better to PIF BEFORE the statement cuts to avoid any type of balance on the CRA’s or is it better to just PIF on statement due date, so no interest but still a balance is reported?  I guess what I’m really wondering is how to show usage – or who I should be concerned will see my usage… I mean, am I concerned with wanting Discover to see my usage or the CRA (or do I even care if the CRA sees my usage)?  I’m sorry for the weird way of asking the question, I’m a bit new at this.  Thanks!

Recently I’ve heard people talking about that Chase Freedom has changed their reward program to somewhat like Discover (rotational). I also notice some people say that for Discover your first $3,000 of spending is only worth 0.25% cash rebate and they usually put a cap on how much you can earn. I can’t seem to find any more information on neither their websites to actually compare the details. My question is:

For folk who have experiences with these cards, if I have the choice to apply between the two which one would be more preferable?

Any input in appreciated.  :smileywink:

I just read the thread asking whether to apply for cards all at once, or a bit at a time. It makes perfect sense to do it quickly so the inq. all fall off at the same time. THANKS! You guys rock.

My score is is the 720′s-730′s, but I have a 7 year space with no new lines, all of the score is from old tradelines.

I app’ed HSBC, got it. $2000. I app’ed Nordies Visa, deeeeenied. I app’ed Discover, got a 7 day message,

I want to try for one or two more.

Any suggestions for cards I can get that are interested in score but forgiving of light credit use?
