Two weeks ago I discovered a medical account I had payment arrangements on went to collections. Â I called the collection agency and they said I had until 12/23 before it would hit my credit. Â They said I could try to clear it up with the OC or set up payment arrangements with them. Â I told them I would try to contact the OC and get back to them before 12/23. Â On 12/02, it hit my credit. Â Turns out they reported it on 11/29. Â I called them, of course furious, that I had been given misinformation that was destroying my otherwise flawless credit. Â They agreed to a PFD. Â I demanded it in writing, but they would only email the PFD agreement. Â They sent it through a secured email server called PGP Universal Secured Message as a PDF style document on letterhead. Â I assume this was due to confidentiality. Â They refused to fax. Â They would mail it, but I was afraid to wait on that, never receive, and lose the offer. Â They also sent me a PIF letter through the same system. Â Of course, I have printed both. Â I am just concerned about the agreement being sent via email. Â They said it would take a few weeks to disappear from my credit. Â I am now just living on a prayer hoping these people are honest. Â They are located within an hour of where I live. Â Do you think it’s necessary for me to drive there and ask the person who made the agreement to sign it as well? Â The emails are not signed, and no person’s name is specified. Â It was just “signed” by the company. Â But, it was cc’d to the person who made the agreement and I do know her name. Â Does this all sound kosher? Â I am really nervous and devastated because this is the ONLY negative thing on my credit. Â Please, please advise me if there are any other further steps I should take.
Does a collection account , for scoring purposes, appear to be a new collection everytime the CA reports info?

This is a medical account that I have repeatedly disputed and tried hippa. I have requested a DV but was sent a something that looked like they just printed it on their home computer.
Yesterday, I sent an e-mail to Cox’s corporate office with my scanned attached receipts. In my e-mail, I explained what hapened and how I corrected it and what I was told when it was corrected.Â
Â
This morning, at 10:04 a.m., the cable company contacted me to tell me they have contacted their CA and the CA has requested that my paid cable collections be REMOVED from my credit report!! Whooooohoooo! That is TWO paid collections that will be gone (the CA was reporting on the same account twice… one TL for equipment… one TL for my final bill).
Â
YES, YES, YES!!
Â
The only remaining collection account is a medical account that should have been paid by my secondary insurance. I am going to go to the provider’s office (nicely) and see about getting it fixed.
Â
I have a CA that is on my CR for a medical account from summer 2004.  I know the HIPAA process and what we should do on paper, but the OC’s office is a 10 minute drive from here. What if I walk in asking about the account and offer to pay them if they give me a PFD letter? And if they say no, I turn around and walk out. Although it has another year and a half before it would age off my CR, I believe it is out of VA SOL.Â
Â
Is walking in to see the OC and making an offer completely stupid? Of course, they get no money without the letter.
Â
Also, what is the form and OC or CA sends to the CRA to update your records called? I can’t remember.
Cap 1 acct looks like this……….
Â
Â
Capital One Bank Usa Na
- Purchased by another lender
Pob 30281
Salt Lake City, UT 84130
8009557070
…so I’m assuming it has been sold to NCO. They have called numerous times. I don’t have the $ to pay in full.
Â
- I should just leave alone for now?
- Also, is NCO good at sueing like Cap 1?Â
Â
Â
Now I also have a medical account in collections and I have NO idea from where it came. I am willing to PIF but I’m scared on how to proceed.
Â
- Should I go through the HIPPA process or just do an PIF letter?
- Also how do I find out who they are without “disturbing or messing up” the account?
I have a medical account in collections that needs to be taken care of ASAP and I am ready to pay it in full, and I’ve heard about the process, but I need the step by step of it.
