I am a first time home buyer who is trying to raise my credit score in order to get an FHA loan.  I have 4 unpaid collections that are more than 3 years old, I keep getting conflicting answers as to paying them off or leave them alone until after my loan goes through. I also have 2 options to be added as an authorized user on a credit card, until I can get my own card. 1 has 3k limit, is 4 years old and is maxed out. 1 has a 500 limit, is about 8 months old, and has a zero balance, both have excellent payment history. Should I use both? Or just one of the cards? Is which one will help the most?

Okay I keep getting this call from CRA I think that maybe their name.  When they contact me they never leave a name are will not tell me who they are. Their number is 18647241363.  They call me in the middle of the night and let the phone ring maybe once or twice and then hang up. They are not calling my house phone the are calling my cell phone they are very mean and rude and have my ss# and let me no that they will use it to ruin my credit. They told me that I owe someone but did not tell me who has anyone else heard of this company?

Be aware that:

1. Paying off a collection account, late pay or derogatory item will not remove it from your credit file. It will stay on your file for seven years along with any dollar amount associated with the past due. >> Is this right?

Ok I have phone bill that I have not paid. ( I did not know anyone in the UK but they said too bad. ) so my bill went from a reg $200 to a whopping $800. I said I would not pay and have not. Now that it is Charged off as of last month. What your saying is even If I was going to pay them the Money there is no way to get this Off my Credit for 7 years?

If this is the case why would anyone pay if I their going to keep getting dinged?

Hello. I keep getting calls from a NCC Collection Agency out of Jacksonville,FL> This company is not listed on my CR and I dont know what they have on me..they never leave a message. Do I call them? I am trying to fix my credit and the last thing I want is another baddie popping up on my CR as I try to fix the ones that are already there.

I am trying to rebuild my credit, i got approved for a cap one car for 500, they said they dont do CLIs until 6 to 12 months. Is it bad to apply for more credit cards around the same time? i applied for other cards n was not approved. I want to have more than 1 card so i can build my credit. i tried discover, amex, denied. I dont want to keep applying n keep getting inq so what should i do.

Hi All,

After years of ignoring my credit that i messed up when I was younger, I got up enough guts to pull my CR (especially after I keep getting denied apartments and am living in someone’s basement)

It’s pretty bad but most of the stuff is disappearing at this point.

I do have a couple of questions I hope someone can answer:

1. If I now live in Tennessee (previously Florida), where I believe I read that CA must be bonded to collect –  How do I deal with the CA if they are unable to do business with me? Can they be taken of my CR?

2. Some of the items on my CR, I cannot figure out. Sometimes some (unknown to me) CA-sounding name is also listed as the OC (with no contact info). Do I dispute this with CRA and find out what it’s all about?

3. A lot of my debts say “this account is scheduled to continue on record unti xx/2010″. Does that mean they will totally disappear from my CR? Some that I have from 2003 do not have “Status Details” with a date and just say “closed”. Will these fall off?

Thank you.

This forum is excellent!

I keep getting responses to GW letters saying they are not allowed to delete because they are required by law to report accurate information. I know this is true but that they are also allowed to NOT report anything at all at their discretion. Does anyone know where the law references this? Something I might be able to include in my letters…
