I recently paid off some collections that were due to credit cards my sister opened in my name and failed to pay.  After I paid them off, I sent GW letters to the OCs, explaining what happened and asking them to remove the negative remarks since I paid the collection.

Today I got a phone call from GEMB/Walmart.  The automated message said they received my letter and they would have the issue resolved within 14 days.  No more detail than that.  Do you think that means they are going to remove the negative marks from the CRAs?  Has anyone else had a similar experience with receiving a phone call like this after sending in a GW?

While listening in on a conversations at my job this subject was discussed.  A program was approved by the Obama’s  Administration that will forgive a student loan that have been in default for several years; If an individual care, teach or work with a person with a disability. There are more details concerning this issue but, I didn’t get the whole conversation. Do anyone know of this?

So my Capital One card has been in penalty APR (29.40%) for a LONG time now…over a year at least, but I just realized it should be a temporary thing and not permanent. According to info on this site, 6 months from after the last late payment it should revert back to normal APR…is this correct?

I wrote a letter to Capital One asking them to switch it back to the normal APR, which i cant even remember what it was at this point, but they just sent me a letter back saying they are "currently unable to lower the APR’s on their products."

Anyway, I happened to just be bored and clicked the balance transfer offer link on my Capital One account main screen and it said if I did transfer balance to my Capital One card it would be subject to my "existing purchase rate APR of 14.8%"….

Does this mean that this is my APR currently and its been switched from the 29.40% and I just havent noticed because I havent gotten the latest statement with the new interest rate on it?

Please forgive me if this issue has been discussed. I have looked through the boards and I am still unsure of how to proceed. I have a charged off debt with Dell of $1855 that the last payment was 12/2007, I am in Texas and the sol is 3 years I believe. I don’t mind negociating a payoff with them however they will not do a pay for delete or fix my credit where it does not show as a current late payment. Are there any suggestions out there before I do something I cannot undo?

Thanks so much for your help,

My open Orchard card is showing the wrong balance, so I decided to call Orchard and disputed the account on all 3 CB (BIG Mistake to dispute open account).  Orchard updated all 3 CB with the correct balance, received a letter from HSBC that my issue has been resolved. The problem now is, all 3 CB still showing that I’m still disputing it under the Comment section. My score took a hit and I know that this is the problem. Anybody knows how long should I wait before the 3 CB update my account? Should I call Orchard or the CB? So frustrated since I want to buy a car next month and now I have to wait again. Lesson Learned. Thanks in advance.

This morning I woke up to the knocking of a guy who served me with papers from Capital One. The only reason I stopped paying was because my hours were cut from the job I was working doing a during that time. I’m not sure if I called Capital One, but I called a couple of other credit card companies that I owed during that time and tried to make payment arrangements until I got back on my feet & the only company that was reasonable was Citibank. The others didn’t care at all & even though I’d been a paying customer for yrs they acted like I had to pay these high amounts steeped with interest fees or else. So I just stopped paying altogether b/c it was too stressful to think about.

Clearly avoiding the issue wasn’t the best idea because now I’m being sued. After doing a bit of research on this forum I’ve decided to confront this issue and file my answer & show up to court. A lot of people said to get all of your documents in order so that you can have a fighting chance. The amount Capital One is suing me for is almost $2600, which I’m sure I don’t owe b/c the limit was only around $1500 maybe less. But the problem is I’m not sure how much I owe exactly because when I first signed up for the card I went paperless & got all of my statements online. Now I don’t have access to the account information anymore b/c they locked it, so how can I be sure of how much I owe exactly? Will it show up on my credit report b/c I stopped paying on the card in Dec. 2008.

Also I am currently unemployed, and not receiving any income, is there anyway that I can avoid paying my court fee because I literally can’t afford it? Also if I’m still unemployed or if I’m not making a lot of money when I actually go to court & will the judge take this into account if he rules that I have to pay? For instance will he give me a payment plan that I can actually afford?

If you’ve read my other post about garnishments then you have some history of my situation. I have been told by more than one person that the garnishment will not and can not go on my credit because it is for a 7 year old traffic ticket and that due to new legislation muncipal judgements can not be reported The first person that told me this is the lady that works at the collection agency that Im having the issue with. The second is a friend of mine that used to work for a collection agency (not the same one) I did not think to ask them for the specific statute on this and I cant seem to find it.

Any truth to this???

I am a single mother trying to clean up my credit so I can qualify for a mortgage, at least an FHA loan. So far, I’ve reviewed my report and disputed the inaccuracies and had them deleted, but the issue I keep running into is about some items on my report that are more than twelve years old. I’ve never filed bankruptcy and I’ve never had a judgment or any public records, but my understanding from the collection agencies is it doesn’t matter how old a debt is, it doesn’t just “fall off” the credit report; I was told when a debt is sold, the clock starts over and the debt remains until it is paid.

I’ve gone in circles trying to resolve the issue; my lender strongly advised me not to make any payments because that would start the clock over and old debts don’t have as much of an effect on my credit score as a 6-month old item would. These people have been trying to collect on this debt since 1998 and they won’t cease collection efforts, even though the debt is past the seven-year expiration mark. I have several other items that are due to come off my credit over the next three years and–I thought–all of my negative stuff will be gone. How can I stop these collection agencies from trying to collect on very old debts past seven years old? What recourse do I have? I want to be able to buy a house by this time next year.
