Long story short my little sister is going off to college however due to the fact that she procrastinated she didn’t get into a cal state and she is now planning to attend a private university that will be costing 31 grand a year! It would all be dandy if my parents could afford that, but I was informed by my mom mother that a grand would have to come out of their pockets every month ( even with Financial aid and loans) my parents surely can’t afford this, that’s why my mom was like
“Oh so well be needing your help” . That made me really angry because I have bills of my own and I don’t have money to just give to them every month. So I tried to tell my mom how its much too expensive.. and how my sis should do a semester at a city college and then transfer to a Cal – State which is 5 grand a year. My mom sounded unfazed my all this so I told her flat out “ if she goes to that Private university, don’t expect any money coming out of my pocket.. and my mom said “ why is that cuz your jealous”! I was three seconds away from hanging up on her.. but out of respect I didn’t .. I got so butt hurt esp. cuz every chance I get I hand them money.. put it this way I handed them a grand so they could pay their mortgage.. andi have yet to get that money back ( and I haven’t even asked for it back)! My credit is ruined because their house is under my name … and I’m JELOUSE??? Most people wouldn’t really care.. but my mom’s opinion means a lot to me and the fact that she says that just makes me feel like crap like I’m this loser that hasn’t finished college and I’m jealous cuz my little sister will?? She just said “ oh I was just joking don’t get all butt hurt like your brother”… but I think it had to come from somewhere.. that’s why it hurts a lot.
okay so i was wondering if i can take out a $ 20,000 loan through fafsfa because im going out of state to go to college living in minnesota going to montana state university and the financial aid lady there said that 8,000 is the most i can get with out the 20,000 dollar loan there asking my parents to pay to which it would be imposible to do so i was wondering if it was possible for me to just take out a loan that large with out huge interest rates and are totally safe like the stafford loan and such
note: im not elligible for grants, and am working on scholarships i just need a safe way of going to my dream school with out screwing my parents.
also i was wondering if i decided to go to a different college would the amounts of financial aid be any larger then montana state is offering or is 8,000 sadly the ceiling for the federal amount everywhere.
So I’m thinking of going back to school to get my Bachelor’s degree (FINALLY)…..I submitted the online FAFSA and received the SAR…the EFC is 8504. I’m waiting to hear from the school’s financial aid office. But in plain English, what does this EFC mean?

I have a private student loan taken out with Citi back in 2002 to subsidize a financial aid office **bleep** up. I moved a few times and totally lost sight of the company until it showed up on my report. I have not made a payment because 1.) I forgot about it and wasn’t receiving bills, 2) When I did see it on my report I was unemployed and unable to tackle a new financial obligation. Simply put will this fall off my credit report because of its age, and it’s a private loan or does it fall under the same rules as a federal student loan?

I applied to consolidate 6 staffords and 1 perkins loan tonight (through the official government financial aid website). I’m just wondering if these “applications” are ever actually denied?
Â
And why do they ask for references? Will they actually call the people I put down? I warned them just in case but I wasn’t sure.
Â
If it matters, the perkins is in default and the other 6 are delinquent. Will that increase my monthly estimated payments? I signed up for a 15 year income-based plan.
Â
Thanks in advance!

SUMMARY OF MY PROBLEM
Just put my daughter in college, she received financial aid and grants that covered the bulk of her tuition but not housing, books, meal plan and remaining balance for tuition. I thought we could easily get a private loan to cover the remaining expenses with me co-signing for her but I’ve been getting denied left and right. I don’t want to have to take a parent plus loan that will be all on me and none on her being that she’s going to be a teacher and they pardon a bulk of your loans when you teach in certain areas for a certain length of time. Can anyone tell me where else I can possibly get a loan for her?

WHAT I’VE DONE ALREADY
I applied for a 10k loan from several lenders including wells fargo, citibank, sallie mae and a few others. I need about 10k for the year and now I just don’t know what to do. Someone please show me some light at the end of the tunnel

Hi everyone, my first post here. I have multiple student loans on my credit report and all are in good standing since I am still a student. A new one gets added each semester as my financial aid is approved instead of them all being grouped together. I was wondering if it would be better for my score to consolidate them into one big loan instead of showing all these smaller multiple loans? Obviously the actual amount will stay the same regardless of what I do, but I wasn’t sure if the number of outstanding loans was a factor in my score in addition to the total balance. Thanks!

I have a few questions related to student loans and didn’t seem to find the answers in any of the previous posts, so here goes:
Â
- Do student loans affect your FICO score? Are they considered extra debt like credit cards?
- Anyone with experience in taking out student loans, are you able to borrow extra for expenses while attending school?
- Anyone have any feedback on Devry? My husband is thinking of going and taking out student loans for this purpose. It is very expensive and I just want to ensure we are thinking of everything before committing. Some feedback I’ve read says the school is just not that great when it comes to financial aid and things in that realm.

Thanks all in advance!
i’ve had a 6373$ hospital bill written to a collections agency a couple months ago because i don’t have insurance. i’m a 21 year old college student going to med school this coming fall and have had trouble getting loans to help with the cost of living (because of this medical collections on my credit report). i had just recently (last week) had the amount completely paid off by the hospital’s financial aid (thank god) and i now owe absolutely NOTHING to the hospital – there is no such debt – let it be known i did not at all settle any amount with the collections agency (West Asset) … i was wondering what my options to get this completely removed from my report, if at all possible.
Â
- do i dispute the amount with the CA? or with the credit bureau? if so how do i go about doing this?
- i’ve called the hospital and all they’ve let know is that they’ll let them know the debt has been “wiped off” …
Â
please help i don’t really know where to go i’ve asked lawyer consultations but most of them just say “we don’t cover that”
So here’s my situation…about 4-5 years ago I was in college and made some (very) irresponsible decisions which led me to piling up balances of ~ $3,000 and ~$2,000 on credit cards, about a $5,000 unpaid tuition bill (private school).
Â
The former two are in collections, the second is in collections but doesn’t report to any of the 3 bureaus. Â The collections agency that bought the $3000 debt filed a successful judgement against me for the principal amount (+ interest, which means the total is more like 4-5K now).
Â
I was laid off from my job just weeks before I was served papers for the judgement, so it really wasn’t within my power to offer any reasonable payment plan. Â After 4 months I have finally found a job and really want to get my credit on track.
Â
Now, I’m juggling two different things at the moment…
Â
1) Â I want to return to school but because of the unpaid tuition at my previous school they will not release transcripts and I am unable to transfer or apply for financial aid because of this.
Â
2) Â The judgement and collections (I feel) have disqualified me for jobs that I otherwise would have been well-qualified for.
Â
My questions are…
Â
Now that the judgement is on my credit and background history, do you think even though it is paid employers will still disqualify me for positions because of it? Â I have tried to be as up front about these issues as possible especially in expressing my desire to pay off my debts. Â It is very frustrating the amount of employers that require pre-employment credit checks regardless of the field and type of work.
Â
What order do you think would be best for me to pay them all off? Â Judgement, tuition, then the $2000 balance CC? Â In all honesty by the time I pay off the first two the statute of limitations may be up on the third account.
