Fine with me if you can decide to buy or not to buy health insurance. I just don’t want my insurance to pay for your emergency room visit. Cash or no visit to ER.

Helping my girlfriend with her collections

She has a medical collection assigned back in January 2006. Original balance $600 Current Balance is $840. I’m assuming this is from when she went to the emergency room back in 2006.

How should I attack this one?

Her other collection is from a Cox Communications bill. Assiged September 2009 for $223.

What steps should I take for this?

Both collections look unpaid. Also how do I get the contact information for these collection agencies? All I see on her myfico.com reports are “180YC00000″ & “831YC01142″

Thanks in Advance.

I had an accident late last year while on vacation. While in the emergency room a specialist came in and reset my wrist and ordered it casted. About a week later I had to go back due to pain, was directed to the orthopedic specialist across the street. While registering they had me sign a paper that I would be responsible for charges. Turned out to be the office of the specialist that did the initial resetting of my wrist. The original doctor didn’t see me but an assistant did and just gave me more (stronger) pain pills. When I was able to go home, the orthopedic doctor immediately noted that the casting was incorrect. The next day, before surgery, the cast came off and we saw the cause of all the pain – bone was sticking out (not part of the original injury). Anyway, the surgery went well but my hand is disabled – likely, I’m told, due to the bad setting and casting originally done.

A few months later I received a bill from the doctor’s office that had originally set my wrist in the emergency room and ordered the cast. My insurance had paid for the service in accordance with the rates set by Coalition America but the office was claiming that I owed them another $1,000. My insurance company, which paid all other bills (ambulance, emergency room, hospital staff, etc)  according to the same standards, said this was a write-off for them (the specialist’s office). I tried to communicate with the doctor’s office about this with no luck, as did my insurance company.  The doctor’s office kept saying that I’d signed a document saying that I’d pay all bills. I pointed out that 1) I signed it many days after the work that they were billing me for, 2) I had no indication that the office was that of the specialist who set my wrist, or that they had any affiliation with anyone who treated me the night of my injury, 3) they had been paid according to set rates (national) for the work performed. I just could not get anywhere with them. After the last e-mail they sent, in all caps, with the same words that they’d been repeating (i.e. I wasn’t getting anywhere), I gave up and asked my insurance company to try. I didn’t hear anything until about two weeks ago when I was contacted by a collection agency. They send a collection notice for the amount a few days later. I have great credit and am afraid that this could ruin it. But I don’t have the $1,000. I don’t have interest in charging them with malpractice to counter this, but I really feel stuck.

Does anyone have any advice for how to try to deal with this and not ruin my credit?? Thank you so much for any advice you can offer.

I came across this site several days ago, and it has so much useful information.  To all those who take time to answer the questions of people like me, I truly would like to say thanks.

With that being said, I need guidance on two medical bills on my credit report.

  •  CA= IC Systems Inc - Amount Owed $13,332 – Charged off 7/9
  •  CA= CP Credit Management – Amount Owed $575 – Charged off 2/9

I went to the emergency room and accrued these charges.  At the time, I had insurance which should have covered this.  I am no longer with the company.

I did not know about these charges because I moved days after visiting the emergency room

Is there any type of way I could get this removed from my CR?  I doubt my former insurance company will settle this debt since it has been over a year.

If I made payment arrangements, would that increase my score?  I would only be able to commit to $50 a month.  I am living check to check (like most of us)

Any suggestions and guidance is greatly appreciated.
