Hi I’ve been looking through the boards for help with my issue but didn’t find anything. So I had two medical collections on my report and I was confused. It was one from urgent care and the other was from my doctor. I paid it without any pay for delete or dv letter ( this was when I was uneducated about the whole credit process) anyway I recently have moved and when I got to my new doctor for a visit, a week letter I got a letter from them saying my insurance was rejected because my name was spelt differently on my insurance. And now I believe that’s why my other bills went to collections because I paid all the copays. Is there anyway I can get this removed from my CR? I don’t even care about the money, it would be nice to have back but I’m more concerned about it being on my CR for the next couple of years. Thanks for any advice.

I’m not rich and it’s probably just a dream. I would like to see health care go back to Doctors and Patients. Tell me what you think about this and add input.

.

I would love to see a medical club started with the doctor in charge of the system. They would get paid every month like insurance. In return they would have to cover all cost and no one else would have a say or a part of the money. They would make the buys for meds and there would be no point in anyone getting a kickback and could control cost better as a person who knows when the cheaper stuff works just as good. The deals they make would save them money but at the same time could bankrupt them in higher cost down the road. I think it would need a gym as part of the health care and food classes would be needed as well. If the doctor gave you a system to follow you would have say 90 days to comply or be removed from the group. If you follow the doctors orders you could not be removed for a health problem. So the kind of care you get early will determine the future of the doctor.

.

The doctor I talked to about this said he liked the idea but some people would run in every day until it was broke. So if there was a gym they could say go to the gym for further study and the problem would show or in time go away and the better their health got the better the doctor would come out in the end by less cost.

.

Now for the patients input to the system. You would be a member so no going to court to get money. But criminal charges would still apply. There would need to be a system for the patients to remove the doctor if they were not serving the club like they felt was needed. Blocking the removal of a patient if they felt it was for the wrong reason. There would need to be emergency funds set aside for things not expected and future growth of the system as they feel is needed and have a place to add input in the club. Paying the doctor or doctors a percentage of the total intake would give them reason to keep people healthy to cut their cost the right way . Giving you the best health care you could get by having them work on the problems you may have before you have them to cut cost and improve their pay.

.

Think it over and add some input if you like, it may never go anywhere or someone who can make it happen may see a rich future in it.

I had a collection of $72 which the OC declined to accept payment saying account was transfered. I immediately talked to CA & gave them cc# etc on the phone to withdraw funds from. Assuming the matter closed, I did not follow up at all.

Several months later, I got a “final notice” from the CA for payment (this time including interest making it ~ $85). Turns out that the payment was not deducted earlier & when asked for the reason, they flatly refused me having given the payment with me ( instead asking me to show proof of payment e.g. copy of check). Again I gave him the credit card info and agreed to pay in full (including interest) when he agreed to this not being reported to CRAs

Unfortunately, I wasn’t aware of the pitfalls & did not not set up a paper trail. When I checked my CR later, the collection showed there. Calling them was useless with the customary rudeness, denegration for not paying on time!  All that filing a dispute with a CRA & going through the local BBB, seems to have resulted in, is that they verified the account & posted the colelction to another CRA.

So I am looking for options to remove this from my report:

1. I am sceptical, given their past behavior, about the use of sending a GW letter. CA seems to have no presence on web but several complaints off ripoffs. Nevertheless, I am willing to give it a shot but am concerned that putting something in writing (where I would just blame issue on “miscommunication”) could be construed as my admission of fault.

2. I read reference to the HIPAA option being applicable only if OC is listed but at least one of the CRAs the Doctor’s name as OC. Can this be leveraged?

Am looking for some insights from the members here.

Thanks!

Currently in the process of rebuilding and due to an insurance screw up and failure by the company benefits admin to update my address, I had a $58 x-ray charge go to a collection agency a few weeks ago and it cost me 30+ points.

After talking with the doctor’s office, paying the $58, and the working back through the insurance company, I got the insurance company to review the claim and pay the doctor’s office, who will credit me eventually.  After multiple conversations with the doctor’s office, I finally got them to agree to call the collection agency and pull the collection back. This was early last week.  Obviously, I’m feeling pretty good about this, but I also know it’s not done until it’s DONE.

How long would you guys suggest I wait?  Do we think it will take a couple weeks to get pulled back or a month or more?  When should I follow up with the physician’s office again?

Anyone have any past experience in a similar situation?  Thanks in advance.

Questions about medical bills and medical collections get asked so often I figured that I needed to assembled a canned response.

Medical Bills

If you’re not yet in collections, but the threats are coming, or even if you suddenly owe a large medical bill, call the medical providers and see if they will accept payments to avoid collections. Even if they charge interest on the account, it’s likely they will charge far less than a CA.

I tend to ask about setting up payment arrangements and let them come up with a number, even on small bills. I have generally found that medical providers are far less demanding than the timeline on which I was willing to pay the bill. For example, I just set up payments on a bill that was about $260 and they offered $52 a month for five months and no interest charges. I accepted, said I’d likely pay it off sooner, and I set up BillPay payments to PIF in four months.

The important thing is to call, talk with someone in the billing department or business office, and arrange payment. I’ve never asked for written terms, and I don’t advise it. They aren’t looking so much to sue, I believe, as they are to settle and balance their books, make payroll, and establish some cashflow from your payment arrangements. Just calling and talking to someone can mean the difference between amicable payment arrangements and a collection.

If they ask how much can you pay, then always have a number in mind and be realistic and reasonable. If it’s a $1,000 bill, they likely won’t accept $10 a month.

Credit From Your Doctor?

Providers, patients and insurance companies make mistakes. As such, sometimes you the consumer underpays what you owe for a doctor’s visit so you get a bill. However, sometimes you overpay, and medical providers I’ve found aren’t always forthcoming about ensuring you get your refund.

It’s a good idea, from time to time, when you visit the doctor and they ask about the copay to respond, “Do I have a credit on my account?” A credit on your account means that you overpaid the provider, and they owe you that money. Sometimes they act as though you’ve spoken a foreign language, but in general they understand exactly what you are saying. When they check, if they discover indeed you do have a credit, ask that the credit be applied to your copayment.

When you have medical bills, and you’re setting up payment arrangements, the provider will usually determine if there is a credit and ask about applying the credit to your bill. If they don’t, be sure to ask about a credit on your account.

If you, your spouse, your kids, or other household members also see the same provider, it’s possible that one of your kids might have a credit on THEIR account so be sure to ask about a credit on the account of anyone in the household. Providers sometimes maintain a different account for each person. Other times they lump the household together on one account.

I have a CA item for $500 from a medical bill for a ER visit. My child had a school sports accident and there insurance never paid claim.  I am willing to pay then go after insurance company but I want a to target a PFD.  Should I address CA or Doctor or both?.  What has the higher probability of success.

I have a paid medical debt that had gone into collection before I paid it. It was for $77. Is it worth writing a GW letter to the doctor’s office about getting this removed from the CRAs? Do they have the power to do that?

I just called my doctor’s office about an old bill from 2007. At the time, I was too sick to work and unemployed. I went back to school because it *paid* to do so–student insurance, small but reliable paycheck, etc. In the interim, I made three payments directly to the OC–who never acknoeledged receipt until I called them up today and asked them to confirm the dates and amounts.

I then asked for a goodwill PFD–and offered to PIF. The person I was talking to said she’d ask her office manager, then call me back. She did so right away–with a refusal. When I asked why, she gave me to the office manager. The office manager started out rude, progressed to chastising and insulting, and ended up screaming collection-agent style. (This is in the doctor’s office, mind you…!) During this time, I explained my situation and what I was asking for and why, twice–the second time while she was screaming down my throat the whole time. Finally I said, “I’m not going to argue with you about this,” and hung up.

She said, “Well, it was YOUR choice to go back to graduate school,” as if I were out buying myself diamonds and Lexuses instead of taking a 1.5 load twelve months a year while teaching two classes and  attending endless mandatory meetings for a whopping 3 figures A MONTH (only recently up to to 4 figures a month). As if I hadn’t sent any payments at all. As if I hadn’t called them myself. By going back to school, on the school’s dime, I also got *health insurance* that I didn’t have when I went to the doctor. She’s treating my sacrifices to better myself financially with immpulse-buying a freaking hat. :(

What should I do? The first person said the CA does whatever they tell them to do re: the credit record. I know a paid collection looks better than an unpaid one, but, as I pointed out, how does extending a little goodwill and flexibility in this case hurt heir practice or any of their other patients?

The collection agency is PDQ. Should I just send them a PFD letter?

Thanks… I’m seriously trying not to cry.

Ok, I have old Medical Bills. on TU with TrueCredit they show :

OC MED1 02 Pal. RMC     $184 DO 09-01-06          On My FICO/EQ report it says Collection on Debt to: Not Reported. The Collection Agency

CA  MED Data Syst.                 DR 11-14-09          408yc00000 was hired to collect a debt of $184 originally owed to “Not Reported” on Acct N. XXXXX

                                                                           Date assigned 09-01-06

                                                                           Date reported 01-01-10

                                                                           Date last active  12-01-05

There are like 6 of these on here from Medical Debt. because I got spider bit and my insurance wouldn’t pay because doctor said it was staff. I know better because I got bit once before from brown recluide and it did the same thing. He coded it wrong. A couple of the others was when I went to have my free yearly check up and this crazy doctor immediately sent me to ER to have mammogram done and my insurance wouldn’t pay for all of it because I had to go through the er and come to find out, the doctor had already sent like 6 people over that morning to have an emergency mammogram done. I don’t think she knew what she was doing. Now I am stuck.

I can’t PFD because got laid off,  Do I DV the CA or what do I do. I have like several of these. Thanks in advance.

I was in a car accident, I have medical insurance. My medical insurance, my medical expenses, but I want to know car insurance is still in charge of these costs? It seems that if I have all the benefits of medical insurance, car insurance, rather than responsible party. If you do not have health insurance, auto insurance companies still need to pay for these costs. Therefore, we should continue to pay those bills, I get what ever gone, my medical insurance company pay? There are statues office, returns to Georgia this? I believe this has not been resolved Counsel argues that, I need all the help possible. Any advice would be helpful. I need a letter writing process. To thank everyone who contributed.
