Hi everyone.  Thanks in advance.  I noticed on my Experian report a charge off from an account opened in 10/1993 and reported on 7/30/2004.  The amount is for $ 860 and the CA is RBN-Fields.  For the absolute life of me I cannot figure out what that’s about.  I’ve looked at all the available info on the Experian site as well as www.sortatruecredit.com but can’t get any info on who the original creditor was.

My questions are these.  Given it’s past the 7 year threshold shouldn’t this thing have fallen off my Experian report by now?  It doesn’t show up on either of my other two reports.

Would it be worthwhile to dispute this on some level?  I know it’s showing as "purchased by another lender" and that more often than not those other "lenders" do have the paperwork they need to back up the alleged debt in court.  That is especially true of older accounts such as this one.

But since it’s past the 7 year threshold I wonder if there isn’t some sort of standardized letter I can send Experian pointing out that this is reporting past the legally allowable date.

Also, just occurs to me I have another question.  My wife filed Ch. 7 BK that is showing a date of February 2005.  When will that drop off her report?  Is it 7 or 10 years?  She filed in CO if that makes any difference.

Thoughts?  Again, the wisdom and experience of everyone here is very much appreciated.

We filed chapter 7 and were not able to include student loan, back taxes, and back child support. We almost have the taxes paid and are working on child support. It is being taken out each check in addition to child support being paid. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to start rebuilding credit other than financing a car at a high interest rate?

My husband and his dad have the same first and last name, but different middle names, there have been 3 or 4 items of my husbands dads in the past that have gone on my husbands credit report, my husbands dads auto loan was on there for a while, which prevented us from financing a car, one of my husbands dads credit cards, his directv bill for 134 dollars that he owed, and there are a couple other things on my husbands credit now that we think are his dads…one is a verizon home phone. You do not have to provide a social security number to get home phone service, or you didnt in 2007 anyway when this was put on his credit, the creditor or CA can not prove this debt is in fact my husbands since no social was used (although in the past even when my husbands dad used his own social, it still some how wound up on my husbands report) since they can not prove that this is in fact my husbands, not his dads, dont they have to delete it by law? Everything came off my husbands credit on its own some how, the auto loan and credit card, but directv we had to dispute 3 times, and finally last month my husband called equifax to dispute it and it was finally removed, im not sure what his rights are legally, and since we have no paper work or anything to prove it wasnt my husbands, i dont know if we can do anything, but isnt up to the creditor or collection agency to prove that its his? And they cant prove that because no social security number was given…help? lol were trying to buy a house but theres a few things on his credit stopping us…we would just pay them to get them over with, but paying them wont raise his score, getting them deleted will, and we need anything thats not his deleted!!

rebuilding credit

It’s been a year since I filed for bankruptcy and I need to start rebuilding my credit. What is the best credit card for this that doesn’t have outrageous processing fees, APR, etc.?

I had RPM Collections contact me about a 5 year old Verizon Wireless debt today.

I do believe I owe the debt, but of course they have added 300.00 in "charges" to the original amount. Checking my credit, it is indeed on my CR.

Total showing owed is 636.00

I asked the CSR about PFD, and he claimed to "not know anything about that process". I would be willing to pay the original amount owed for a PFD..but I’m not interested in "settling" the account..The way I see it, if I can’t get it deleted, there is no sense in PIF, as the resulting FICO score movement will be minimal since the debt is 5 years old. Or, at least thats my opinion on it.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

I have been rebuilding my credit since July 07! and doing really good paying my loan on time and paying off the last account. Then I get this notice that my credit card was over the limit by $ 1.31 and I couldn’t believe how it brought my credit score down. Is there anything I can do? It is a credit union credit card do you think they will take that off my credit report?

Help!

I have a CA that has been there since 06 in 2009 the creditor hired the same CA to collect which ended up changing the Date Assigned to 2009. How can I dispute this information? Should I contact the creditor first? I offered to do a PFD via telephone and the CA said that they don’t do that. The CA is CBCS  – should I retry?

The original date from the actual creditor is 2005.

I have a line of credit that has been charged off . It has a limit of $3000 and a balance of $2879. It was opened in Feb 2004 and only two payments were made on it before I defaulted on it. Both TU and EX show it will fall off in 09/2011. Shouldn’t it be sooner? I know there weren’t payments made on the account that far out, but I don’t have proof of when I made the last payment. Should I dispute it and see what happens or just wait it out until September? If I dispute it through the credit bureau’s, will the bank show them proof of when it was last paid? Or should I write a dispute letter directly to the bank? It is still with the original creditor, not a collections agency. This account is being factored into my utilization even though it’s charged off and it is hurting my scores (everything else has a $0 balance right now) so I want to get it off as soon as possible.

I had a Suntrust bank account charge off a few years ago. I needed the account number for updating some investment information. I actually had to call the bank my account number. While talking to them I asked the rep if I were to pay back the balance in full if my account would be retracted from the collection agency. She stated that if paid in full all they would do is simply contact the collection agency to make them aware my debt had been paid in full and my account would then be listed as a paid collection. Is that possible since I’m not dealing with the collection agency and paying the bank that they work with the collection agency regarding my account? I have no desire to pay the collection agency unless I can work out some type of arrangement with them. I don’t have a whole lot of money but am looking to pay off debts starting with the small amounts and easiest to remove first. I actually have a library collection on my credit report, hopefully that won’t be on there for 7 years.

hi everyone, first post.  i’ve been lurking around the last few days.  what brought me here was google search of “best buy master card rewards zone”  i received one of these preselected offers the other day.  so on a whim i decided, “why not?”  already having some idea that i would probably be rejected.  to my suprised they approved me $300 with annual $59 fee.

granted, i this amount isn’t that much to celebrate but to me i thought “wow, this is great!”  prior to this approval, i have a victoria’s secret account.  i was an authorized user on my parents’ world perks signature visa (has since become amex delta sky miles) 7 years ago.  i also had an account with msufcu (michigan state university federal credit union) that was opened in 2006 with a $1500 limit (visa classic) but was closed by the creditor in 2009 because i was past 180 due.  i have been paying it down since then.

so with the new best buy mc approval, i thought, why not give msufcu a try again.  so i called and again to my surprise, they reopened my visa (now called “visa platinum”) with a limit of $2,500/16.9% APR.   the prior blance from my old account carried over of around $860 and change.  i’m thankful since i thought i wouldn’t be able to get any line of credit since this incident. they mailed me a letter yesterday stating my score 614 (from experian)

so lurking around more on these forums, i looked into seeing what other cards i could apply.  i thought amex zync since most people seemed to get approved and i thought it would be a good way to get my foot in the door with amex.  they didn’t approve me for the no set limit card but offered me two options: $500 limit provided that automatic payment would be set up in conjunction with my bank account or $200.  naturally i went with the $500 option.  i see this as a way of treating the card like a debit card (what i’ve been using the last 3 years) and help build my way up to the other line of amex cards.

as a last ditch effort, i tried to apply at macy’s today, hoping i would get approved this time (i tried to apply about 1.5 years ago but was rejected on the spot).  it came up as not approved but not declined, either.  the sales associate told me that a further review would be looked into.  i’m really hoping i do get approved since i want at least one more store card (albiet victoria’s secret and best buy).  i would actually be surprised if i do get rejected again, though.

now i’m wondering with the amex zync and the reinstatment of my msufcu visa, would these cards definitely be helpful in rebuilding/building my credit?  now i kinda regret doing the best buy app (had i known before i probably wouldn’t since they do a hard pull).  what’s people’s recomendation on the best buy master card?  any tips or pointers on all these cards would be helpful as well as any recomendations for cards to build credit.  thanks so much.

Hey there guys, I’ve been lurking here for a few months–was trying to get a used car, and needed to see where I stood.  At any rate, I’ve been looking over my credit reports, trying to see what I can do to start rebuilding my credit.  I’ve been trying to get all my answers from just reading the other posts here, but there are a few things I’m still not clear on.

I think the biggest things adversely affecting my score are some collections accounts and a judgment record.  I apologize if my requests seem too akin to handholding, but the ones I’m not certain on how to approach are below:

PROFESSIONAL FINANCE C

Original Creditor: ATMOS ENERGY FD

Responsibility:   Individual

Condition: Derogatory

Original Balance: $36

Balance: $36

Date Opened: 11/2005

Date Reported: 02/2006

I found this gem, and was quite surprised (it wasn’t on the TU reports that I’ve been getting).  Nearest I can figure is, I got a bill for $36 bucks after I moved apartments when I lived in TX.  I may have screwed the pooch, but I gave Atmos a call, and the lady I spoke with said that the CA was the owner of the debt now, but that I could pay her and they would report it paid to the CA.  I have no issue paying $36 to get this removed from my CR, and I think I should start with a PFD, but I don’t know if I should be sending it to the OC, or CA.

ESCALLATE LLC

Original Creditor: EMP OF GASTON COUNTY PLLC.

Responsibility: Individual

Condition: Derogatory

Original Balance: $637

Balance: $637

Date Opened: 09/2009

Date Reported: 11/2009

This can only be a medical bill for an emergency room visit I made, that I never received a bill for.  Not something I can afford to PIF yet, so I assume I should wait to contact them either after the SOL, or only when I’m ready to PIF?

LEGAL ITEM

Type: Judgment

Status: Filed

Date Filed: 02/2005

How Filed: Unknown

Closing Date: [not listed]

Court: City & County Government

Plaintiff: 1ST COMMUNITY FCU

Action Amount: $1709

This is the judgment record on my report.  I took out a loan to consolidate some of my debt, but started missing payments after my savings diminished while I was unemployed after separating from the military.  I know for a fact that I didn’t miss any payments while I was still employed; therefore, the date on this judgment doesn’t make sense to me because on the date it was filed, I was on deployment in Kuwait.  Can I somehow dispute this under violation of the SCRA?  Or am I pretty much stuck in the same barrel as everyone else with a judgment, having to wait for it to fall off my report?

My husband had 4 SL accounts that were reported 30 days late to the CBs on 01/31. However, last week he was approved for a deferment on these loans that now dates back to before the time that the loans were 30 days late. When the creditor (AES) updates their reporting with the CBs next month, do you think they’ll remove the 30-day lates? ARe they required to since now, the loans were considered in deferment at that time?

I’m going to wait to see what happens, but I’m trying to prepare myself for the worst case scenario where I have to fight with AES over this.
