I had a derogatory item pop up out of the blue this month. I think it’s an old item from Adelphia that was sold to a collector that came off after 7 years. It was gone for a year, now I think it’s back in another form because another collector bought it. I knew I should have disputed it. I didn’t bother because it was probably from college–over 7 years ago.  It also says: Account information disputed by consumer, meets FCRA requirements, under remarks.  I never disputed the item obviously because it’s so new.  What should I do?  Thank you in advance.  |
In 2005 I started my credit repair and for the last 4 and 1/2 years everything has been great…..I even bought a house in 2009…….So today i get an email from my credit monitoring service and I see that a previously deleted entry was added back to Experian….It was a $75 Medical Bill from 2006; PARAGON REVENUE GROUP is the collector however I dont recall if they were the original collector.
Â
Anybody have any advice as to what I should do??
I received a notice from a new CA today, saying they were assigned the debt from the OC. The debt is still reporting from the old CA. The new CA had my account info correct. After a call to them, they said if I could pay the collections by the date they were set to report for the first time (2/2) they would not report it to the CB’s…has anyone heard of this before? In the same conversation, the collector said the OC still owned the account, and they could not PFD since they did not own it. How could this bite me in the behind? I could manage to pay it by 2/2, and the collection is new enough, i would like it to go away.
Â
Does this sound valid..if you clear up a collection before it reports, it disappears? I have til 2/2 to take care of it, if so.Â
How would I know that they were really the new assigns?
How can I get the old CA to drop the reporting?
Â
Thanks in advance!
In 2006 I had a BMG Music account and ordered CD’s and never paid the bill. I was a minor in 2006, and now that I am a 19 year old adult the $47 was put on my 3 reports Oct. 19, 2010 and dropped my Transunion FICO from 754 to 664. I have paid the collection agency the $47 debt and they submitted to all 3 bureaus to completely delete any record of a collection. I called Transunion after I paid the $47 and explained to them my situation, and even though the collection still appeared unpaid, they went ahead and removed the collection due to no contact information on the collection agency, and due to me never receiving a phone call or a letter stating it would be put on my credit if I failed to pay(I explained this and they determined there was no way to contact the collector.)

Will my score rebound back up to 754 now that my report shows 0 collections?
OK. Â I’m looking for help and I figured I’d try here. Â I’m 28 and I have a few issues with credit. Â According to my Experian report, I have 3 negative items. Â 2 of them are from the same object, one was a silly mistake. Â I need some advice:
Â
Negative Items:
Â
- Secured Credit Card – I paid 5/3rd bank 300 dollars for a 300 dollar credit limit card. Â I ended up spending near 300 and kind of left it alone (Stupid). Â They added fees, said I had a high balance of 527.00 lowered it to 336 and sold it to Asset Acceptance. Â I didn’t get my 300 deposit back. Â - Credit Report Date Opened – 6/1/2005
Â
- Asset Acceptance – This is from the original 5/3rd bank card, they say I owe them 527.00 and have sent me various offers to settle, but from what I have read, I have no real incentive to pay them back, it won’t really help my score. – Credit Report Date Opened 12/1/2007
Â
- School Loan – I left to work overseas for 6 months in late 2009/early 2010 and set up consolidation for my school loan, I found out later one hadn’t been consolidated, it eventually was 120 days past due, I did consolidate it and now it’s current.
Â
Positive Items:
Â
- My dad has a credit card which was in my name listed on my report, it gets paid on time and has a 16k balance.
- I have my own credit card with a 5k balance which I’ve had for over 2 years and never been late on.
- I have 30k in school loans which I pay on time except for the single instance mentioned above (3 separate accounts)
Â
Bottom line is my score is around a 640, but with the negative items listed, I can’t really get any kind of decent financing, my credit card has high interest. Â I understand I messed up, but honestly, the 2 items from 5/3rd bank don’t make me feel too guilty. Â I gave them 300, I spent around 300, they just tacked on fees because I was silly. Â I was recommended to try a pay for delete letter, but the negative items drop off in 2012 and 2014 respectively, and I’m scared of starting the clock over on the debts. Â Any tips?
Â
Update: Â
Â
- Why is the dropoff date different for the 5/3rd debt and the collections debt that ensues, shouldn’t it be all the same?
- The original debt was in Kentucky, I live in Texas, the Collector is in Michigan, 5/3rd is in Ohio, which statute of limitations is the correct one?
Here is my deal…. I am being pursued for some private student loans that defaulted and have gone to collections. The total adjusted amount is about $30k, but the principal is about $20k. After talks with this collector, he got down to $12,500 …. I cannot do that, and I told him.Â
Â
I made him a counter offer of $8,000 for a settlement, and he flat out refused, then said he is making notes in my file, confirmed my address and said that he will stop phone contact. I assume that this is the point he will send a judement. Â
Â
I am bankrupt, unemployed and have no assets.Â
Â
Is there any way he will come back and accept that $8,000? How should I proceed? I’m not sure what they can demand from me in court, considering my situation. I think $8,000 was a pretty legit offer being that its about 35% of the principal on a defaulted bad loan. They probably bought it for pennies on the dollar.Â
Â
anything to ease my mind would be great.Â

I am attempting to get a home loan and I am only 23 points away from being approved. I only have a couple of old collections on my record but the last time I paid off several old collections it caused my score to go down almost 100 points and it took almost a year to get 1/2 the points back. My lender recommened paying the collections only if the collector agreed to delete them once they were paid but the collector indicated they are not allowed to remove things from your credit record. I do not mind paying these off if it will help my score but I can not risk my score dropping when I am so close. Also are there any tips to get my score up just a little?
I have a friend who had a Discover CC charged off 1/2009. DOFD 7/2008 (other delinquencies, but the 7/2008 was when the account appeared to have gone south permanently). She has been recieving letters (3 of them  - 2 in January, & 1 in March) from this collector. She asked me for advice and I believe it is within SOL because of the delinquency that resulted in it’s permanent status 30/60/90/120 Lates, then C/O.
Â
She has not DV’d the collector, but I do know that she made a payment (do not know how much, I just see it in her notation)Â 8/2009, but CA (our state) is not a DOFLA state unless past SOL (4 years)…which this appears to be still in (2 years left). Any advice with regard to this situation? I am thinking of advising her to request a Full Media Validation, and (should they validate), attempt to negotiate settlement.
Â
The balance is just over $1600. Original CL for the card was 1000.
Â
Any prior experiences with this collector, or anyone who has dealt with a collector/firm for Discover or dealt with any collector/firm for a CC Company within SOL? Please advise.
Â
Thank you….
