I made an agreement with a colection agency. They were willing to settle and then put paid in full on my credit report, not settlement. The problem is the collection company that offered me the agreement is not reporting on my credit report. They are a subsidary of the company reporting on my credit. I sent them an endorsed check with the agreement on the back of the check saying if this is cashed you have to update credit with paid in full. Now Im disputing this and all the credit beareaus are saying that is not suffcient enough they need something from the collection agency which is saying that it has been settled not paid in full. How do I fight this because I have the agreement on back of the check showing payment.

Long time lurker, first time poster -

First, my thanks to everyone for the positive vibs and excellent source of material for my rebuilding needs.

So I had this old account with what was then AT&T Home Entertainment – when we returned their equipment  they said I was missing one of the internal auth cars or some such.  I contested, talked, sent letters, the whole works with them. I finally agreed to pay them off but just (and I mean literally) before I sent the check they referred it to collections and it hit my CR on Experian only. All of my scores with the other two CRA’s is over 700 but this one stays around 670, probably because of this mark.

I’ve contacted The CMI Group (in TX) and i’ve done multiple PFD’s letters and called and the works, but they say that they won’t do a PFD “due to contractual obligations from the original creditor” – not sure if that sure is legit? Thoughts? I can’t find any evidence to support that clam, but then again, they don’t have to prove it to me.

So my next thought is to send a “by cashing this check letter” and certified funds – hoping that they mistakenly cash it and here in TX, they’re bound to the provisional letter.

So if that doesn’t work, should I just go ahead and pay it to at least get the balance to zero? Thoughts?

If it’s at zero, i’m presuming that even if it’s listed as a Collections that would help the score boost until it comes off (March 2013). I can then pepper them with GW letters to hopefully get that done.

So what say you?

My Thanks.

Or is money wired to the payee from my bank? Doesn’t online banking cost the bank money? How come banks don’t charge for this service. I’m not naive I know they pass on the cost to me but how?

For the last two years that I’ve been in Iraq I have work very hard to rebuild my credit..  I had an account with CITI that was settle in full via a conditionally endorsed check.  The terms were that once the check was cashed they would agree to remove the derogatory information.  It has been over 6 months and nothing has been done.  They had also the choice to return the check if they did not agree with the terms.  What can I do??? I have a couple more accounts that have 1 30 day late.  Does good will letters actually work??? Any experiences.  My current scores are in the range of 680-700…..

Received a settlement offer that will be accepted.

“Payment is to be made in the form of Money Order, Personal Check, Cashier’s Check, or Certified Check.”

What is the best form of payment to use?  Personal Check would be the easiest since I wouldn’t have to go to the bank but I thought that you should never send a CA a Personal Check.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

I’ve searched this site to see if it’s already been posted and it hasn’t.  I was looking for an agency yesterday and found this site.  The people they list are usually the president or CEO.  Check it out!

I have two very recent medical collections reported to the credit bureau and would like to know the best plan of action to get them deleted (if possible).  Foolishly, I did not validate them or go through the HIPAA process because they had not yet been reported and I thought that they would not be if I paid as promised.

1)  Contract Callers Inc.- I paid this in full on March 23 and the check cleared on March 29.  The rep was very unpleasant because I would not give her cc info to pay by phone but as I told her I would, I did mail the check the very next morning.  On May 30 I received an alert that they had reported.

2)  Hollis Cobb Associates- I began paying them on March 20 and have paid as agreed on the 20th of each month and I was alerted on June 6 that they had reported.

Any suggestions for these situations???

Thanks!!!!!!!
