I have received two phone calls from Portfolio Recoveries – once on my cell phone and once on my landline – regarding an old Goodman Jewlers charge card from 1998. Both times I told them to mail me information and left it at that. On the second call, to my landline, she told me that they had mailed me something – to an address I haven’t lived in for 8 years! She asked for my current address, and I hung up after telling her that I am not in the habit of giving out personal information to anyone calling me on the phone.

This is 6 years past SOL. What should I do next, if anything? (According to the caller, the amount due is only $211).

Thanks!

Hello all,

Thanks to all the help from the forums I have been able recesistate a half dead credit score, and now I need help again. My scores have been the same for the last couple of years give or take a few points. I was wondering if anyone had some advice to help boost my scores up. Here’s a my situation:

Orchardbank Mastercard 2005- 1600/ 300bal statement hasn’t cut yet, and I made a payment today

Orchard Platinum Visa     2007- 1550/ $0 bal

Capital One Visa               2007-  1050/$0 bal

Macy’s charge card           2000-  1500/$0 bal

Amex Zync                          2010-         $0 bal Opening this card didn’t lower my score either

There are no inquiries on my TU report. On my EQ report there is 1 from sept and dec of 09 and 1 from mar in 2010. There is one baddie showing from 2004.

I’m trying to figure out how to go about showing a low util on my credit cards. Let’s say I charge $35 on Card X on March 15. Statement date is March 23, payment date is April 21. Do I let the $35 hit the statement then pay before the due date? If I let the $35 hit the statement won’t I then be assessed finance charges? If I pay the $35 before the statement date what will report to the CRAs? Have I confused anyone else yet?:smileytongue:

I really need help.  I have about $75,000 in credit card debt.  I always pay on time and my Fico is 712.  However, I am fully maxed out and need a way to pay down principal because I spoke with Citibank ($40,000 is on this card) and they said that they would lower the interest rate to ZERO for 12 months and let me pay 1% , $400 a month, but this would close the card.  So, this is not a settlement but rather the bank closing the card with a payment plan.

A. How would this affect my FICO score?

B. I am considering doing this on all 4 cards that I owe on.  Thoughts?

C.  Would AMEX close my charge card because of these changes to my credit report, even though I regularly pay off this card each month (I need this card).

Please help.

Has anyone proven that Zync is easier to get or just the same as green, gold, plat?

Hi there,

I am looking to apply for the Amex Gold Charge card and I am wondering what the requirements may be in terms of score. I have a score of 730 but a credit file that has only been open for a year. I meet the income requirements but I am afraid of denial due to my length of credit history. Should I call a CSR to bypass the online application. I don’t want a hard inquiry on my report that ends up being useless.

I’m waiting on my federal refund, which is about $3,000. My main goal right now (and only obstacle to the 700 club) is high utilization, so I’ll be putting all of it towards debt payment.

My two highest balances, and thus the bulk of my util are:

Nordstrom Visa $2800 / 3000 CL

CitiBank Visa $2500 / 3200 CL

My main goal right now is to pay down util enough to break into the 700′s, and eventually apply for an Amex charge card. But I know that in addition to overall utilization, companies consider ‘high balances’ on other accounts. With that in mind, would it be better for me to pay down one of the cards in full, or apply $1500 to each card so I wont appear to have ‘high balances’? Of course it will still be a few months before I apply for anything and I will continue paying these down, but for now, what is the best option? BTW, interest rates on the two cards are practically the same. Thanks!
