I have a few negative items on my credit report and I’m wondering which of these I should focus on to help rebuild my credit the most.

Â

I’m currently at about 75% Util on my CC’s.

I have 1 60 day late and 2 30 day lates from August 2007 to March 2008 on an old HSBC account that I paid in full and closed. I was in the Navy at the time and was deployed for those dates.

I have 1 closed CA status for an old issue with Comcast. I forgot to return my cable box and I guess my new address never got updated so they charged me and sent it to a CA.

Â

I know the CC Util is a big issue and am working hard to pay that down.

Â

Should I bother trying a GW to HSBC to clear the late payments. Are they old enough now that they aren’t really having a big effect or are they still significantly detrimental. If I do send a GW letter should I include something about my being deployed with the Navy at the time?

Â

Would it do any good to contact Comcast directly about the CA or should I approach the agency directly? I still have the cable box (I put it in a closet and forgot about it until I saw the credit report) so id rather not pay the $400 they want but I don’t know if I have another option.

Â

Thanks in advance

Â

YES, YES, YES!!

Â

The only remaining collection account is a medical account that should have been paid by my secondary insurance. I am going to go to the provider’s office (nicely) and see about getting it fixed.

Hello everyone. I’d like some input on how I should approach a problem that is really affecting my credit. I moved into the current basement apartment I live in with my daughter over 3 years ago. I didn’t have any help and towards the end of packing, was putting things that didn’t go together in the same box. As a result, I put my cable box in a box with photo albums.Â

Â

Because my cable TV and Internet is included in the homeowner’s WiFi, I had no need for my own cable account and totally forgot about the cable box. At least until the day I went to find my photo albums. Guess what I found? The very next day I drove the cable box to Cox Cable, explained what happened, turned in the box, and paid about $92 they said I still owed. There was also a bill for $36 for the equipment but since I returned it, that bill was deleted (or so I was told). When settling this with Cox Cable, the rep that day told me no adverse action had been taken and everything was fine. I didn’t think any differently because I had not received any sort of collection notice or even a bill for that matter.

Â

Well, guess what’s on my credit reports… all three of them?! TWO collections for a CA for Cox Cable (one for the equipment… which was moot) and another for the $92 bill. : (Â

Â

I’ve managed to find the bio of the Northern VA Cox Cable CEO/Manager… and his contact information.Â

Â

Would it be a bad move to send the CEO a GW letter/e-mail? Or should I dispute with the CRAs? Or DV the CA? The CA only reports for one month (and I believe it’s for a time AFTER I actually paid the account). The accounts are marked as paid collection.

Â

My goal is to have these deleted… either at the request of the OC or as a result of a successful dispute with the CRAs.

Â

I’ve read the “which do I do” thread, but I’m still not sure. I’m nervous about making the wrong move.

Â

I did notice that the Cox CEO for N. VA is prior Army (8 years as an Army ranger). I work for the Army (civilian). I wonder if that might work against me or in my favor.

Â

Any thoughts? What would you do? I’m sure my scores would greatly improve. This snafu = 2 paid collections on my CRs.

Â

* The account was paid off 4 years ago.

My husband has a paid collection from a cable company who sold the account to NCO financial. He called NCO today, they were unwilling to GW his account. We spoke with the cable company, waiting to hear back from a supervisor. I’m guessing that’s a no as well. Has anyone successfully sent a GW letter or email to NCO for deletion? If so, where did you send the letter/email and what did it say? My husband was out of work for a few months, and this is what we’ve included in our letters. Thank you!

Ok I admit I was afraid of on-line banking due to the hackers etc. But once my credit union showed me, I really thought it was so easy and I began to become confident in using it. Saves stamps, not to mention trees.

Â

Well my fears of on line banking were re-enforced in the past few months. I’m with California Coast Credit Union.Â

Â

Errors began happening in the past month. One was a gas card bill, the other was a cable bill. My cable and gas bill statement for the month came in saying they were not paid, and that I was over due to pay immediately. The cable bills electronic check was denied supposedly due to lack of funds. ( not true) The gas card bill was paid to an account that was closed down.Â

Â

First let me explain the gas card one.

Â

The account was the wrong number, it had been closed down. Yet the payment went through to the company ( mobil who who is affliated with Citi Bank ). The electronic check passed through and the money debited out of my account. When I called both Mobil and my credit union, neither could explain what happened or why. So now the credit union put a tracer out for the electronic check, since it showed it was paid.Â

Â

My question:

If the account was closed, wouldn’t it have been feasible to send the electronic check back to the bank? So as the correct account could be credited and fixed? ( At least that is how I think anyway) This is still pending.

Â

Â

The second mistake was the cable company bill, and the credit union denying the electronic check because of lack of funds.Â

Angry, I go to the cable company with a check in hand to pay, they refused the check and I ended up paying with a credit card. I was then informed by the representative, if this keeps up, ( since this was the second time the credit union did this) they would shut down my cable.

I went over to my credit union ask them why they told the cable company I had no funds in my account, when I have more than enough money there. No explanation and denied ever doing this.

Â

Needless to say, both entities passed the buck, neither would take responsibility of who made the mistake.Â

Â

It’s not the first time the credit union messed up payments. They caused my rent and utilities to be late. When questioned as to why, they had no answer.

Â

It leaves me feeling that you cannot trust this credit union’s online banking, even with the confirmation numbers and paying days before the due date, accounts are paid late or not at all. So I’m back to writing checks until I can find a bank I “can” trust.

Â

Â
