Complicated student loan issue

Hi everyone,   I have a rather unusual student loan issue I was hoping the board could shed some light on.  It's a long story, so here goes:   I went to grad school and graduated in 2002.  I got a great job and was making plenty of money.  I won't go into details, but things fell apart in 2005 after a back injury.  I ran up more than 100,000K in credit card debt, lost my job and ended up hospitalized for nearly 6 months in mid-2006.  Like I said, I don't want to go into details, but I was not hospitalized for the back injury, but a debt-inducing condition that resulted afterwards...I'm sure most of you can guess what that was.   Anyway, I stopped paying my bills in mid-2006, including all of my student loans (I had 2 student loans with AES - 1 public and 1 private).  In 2007, after I got my life back together, I declared chapter 7 bankruptcy.  All of my credit card debt was discharged.  My lawyer told me my student loans were not, which made sense from what I knew about the new bankruptcy law.  Soon after I started working.  Once I had some money, I wanted to start repaying my student loans again since they had not been discharged.  I logged onto my AES account.  It stated that I was behind on my public loans, but that my private loans had been paid off by "bankruptcy."  I didn't know if this was a mistake, but I figured I wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth.  I started repaying the private loans only and everything was just dandy.    About 6 months later, I got a letter from a woman named Jennifer Myers at "Keybank, NA" stating that I owed them for the private student loan.  She wanted me to payoff the loan over 25 years.  I called and spoke to Ms

HSBC statement & CA (Collection Receivable) statement – who do I pay

I received a statement from HSBC - Best Buy.  Account is 3 months in arrears - I messed up & want to fix.  I then received statement from Collection Receivables.  I did a DV.  I received copy of credit card request from Collection Receivables and a letter saying to contact them to make suitable arrangments.  2 days later I then received statement from HSBC.  I want to fix this - I got a copy of my credit report  and the account is "account closed by credit grantor" 120 days past due.   Can I do a PFD with the original creditor or do I have to deal with the CA

I joined TrueCredit for thier trial period and I called today to cancel it.  In order to keep my business, the customer service representative offered to lower the price for me from 14.95 permonth to 8.i95 per month.  I wasn't planning on staying with them, but for only 1.00 permonth, I get all three credit reports AND all three c redit scores whenever i want to see them.

How do I settle my card out?

Please help me--  Im desperate for some hope and help.   In my older post, there seemed to be a consensus that a guy with my situation (long sad story) should consider a stetegic settlement-- not BK, not default, and definitely not just keep paying down.   My situation: :smileysad: Self employed in Ca

Questions about raising score with CC Pt1

Hello and thanks for providing this great resource.    I used to own an aamco transmissions franchise, "doing the Nixon, I am not a crook."  It went under because the franchisor chose a poor location, I knew retail but nothing about auto service and they said the location was a good one.  That was 3-4 years ago, I try not to remember.  Before this my credit score was in the mid 800's.  Seriously, I am not a crook...LOL.  But if you want me to recommend a tranny shop, there are only a few, if any aamco's I would recommend.  Okay, with that short history here are my questions.   My CS had tanked, it was 520 and after a year I have it up to 589.  Not much but I have numerous collection accounts, no open credit and credit utilization (I guess because I owe a ton).  I did not file bankruptcy because everything was in the business.  I just recently opened a checking account and would like to know if opening a checking account raises your score?  I heard once that it did and that opening a savings account also raises your score, eventhough it does not show up on your CR.   Now to raise my score I have been looking at getting secured and CC for bad credit.  Do the scoring techniques look at who the credit card is from?  I know my report once said I had too many accounts from finance companies or something along that line.  If you were to apply for a loan do the underwriters say, "Hey you have a CC from XYZ and they only issue secured cards?
