Should I send a letter to all 3 CRA’s reminding them that my DoFD was 7 yrs ago and to please take the item off of my report?

rebuilding credit
byMark Lincoln

I have my utilities which of course help, but i have heard a credit card is the best way to rebuild credit. But with my credit being not real good, no one will approve me for a credit card. I feel like i am chasing my tail in circles.

I just recently paid off all my past credit card debt. I paid off one student loan (expect the interest) and i have one student loan still active. I noticed my credit score went up, but i am still being denied. How long does it take to completely clear off my debt and how soon should i apply for credit so i can “rebuild” my credit. And do bad credit ever go away?

This is my first post on this forum but I have spent much time over at CreditBoards and DebtorBoards.  Much props to FlyingIFR and Pysch Doc!!!  And ofcourse everyone here as well.

Qestion for the Amex gurus:

Does AMEX check their blacklist database before issueing a prepaid card?

Before everyone starts asking why I want one….I just do.

I’ve been lurking around this forum for a while and finally decided to sign up. I applied for the blue cash everyday last week on thanksgiving day and was approved.. I’ve been reading and I wish I had applied for the zync on the same day/same pull. Now that it’s likely too late for that I’m hoping someone can shed some light on any other cards I maybe should apply for/ would be approved for before the Amex pull shows up? I’ve been thinking about the chase freedom but really wasn’t sure. Here’s my current accounts:

Wellsfargo student card- 800 limit
1fbusa student card 2250
Belk card 150
And now the bce ( I called and they said 2300)
I also have 20k in student loans reporting that’s have not entered repayment yet because I’m still in school.
My AAoA is approx 1yr 6 months With nothing bad.

I got the acceptance letter from Amex which said my ex score was 745. I pulled my other two fico’s a couple months ago and they were both right around 730. I believe I have 3 pulls on my eq/tu reports and once the Amex shows up then 4 on ex.

Any advice or tips would be great.. Thanks.

I posted this CC Forum.. Thought I’d see what you guys thought.

So I have a friend who has been kind enough to add me to her Amex Green backdated to 07 which wouldn’t affect my aaoa since mine is currently at 5 years. She has a flawless history which is why I want to be added as an AU because at this time I only have 1 positive factor on my credit report and that is my backdated Amex Optima (08) with perfect history, everything else is spotty.

Here’s the catch, she has always paid her Amex on time so they started giving her the ability to carry a balance and she is current carrying a balance of $3k, since the line is open there is no credit limit, but I’m worried the balance will affect me in a negative way, what should I do?

Just got an alert from my Equifax Score Watch that a suit was added by AMEX for the total of $ 11,500 that I owe them.  Now what?

I am thinking of overnighting a letter to them offering to pay off the debt over the next year (12 equal payments) and then to see if they would offer me the Optima card if I did this.  My hope is that they will accept, and I can open a good standing account with them.

What do you all think?  Should I get a lawyer involved or do this myself?  Or is there anything else you all would recommend?

Please advise.  Time is not on my side on this one.

Than you all for helping.

I have two credit cards in collections and i recently started paying them off. after i have satisfied these accounts how long should it take to repair my credit score. and what might any one suggest that could help rebuild my credit???

Free report at: www.CSBCards.com – (*24hr Recorded Message (775) 473-9014*) CREDIT REPAIR: info from the credit secrets bible Rebuild Credit: Insider Credit Repair Techniques to Improve Credit Score Fast! What’s the fastest way to raise your credit score? To quote the classic magazine salesman from the movie Office Space “That all depends”… While the removal of negative items from your credit report will almost always result in an increase in your credit score, there is a method that works better. Here’s why. Adding positive accounts is actually more effective at improving your credit score (in the short term) than removing negative one. Unfortunately, few consumers or credit repair companies know this. One of the biggest problems with trying to get approved for new credit is that you need to “have” credit in order to be approved. This causes a sort of catch 22. How does one “get” credit if no one will give them credit because they don’t have any credit to begin with? A vicious cycle indeed, but a real one. However, if you have someone you can use a cosigner this is NOT a problem. Simply have them cosign on the new credit application for you. If you don’t have a cosigner, read on. Contrary to popular belief (or what myfico and credit repair companies would like you to believe), the largest factor in building a solid foundation for your credit score comes down to two credit scoring factors: 1.) The “High Credit Limit” and 2.) Your “Debt to Credit” Ratio Your high credit

So, this is a weird situation. Many many years ago (early 90s) I had an AMEX that was cancelled due to non-payment (college student, stupid, etc.). I left the country for a long time and have recently returned, but since I was gone for so long, my credit report shows that my oldest account was opened 10 months ago (BofA secured – $ 3k limit).

I have a mortgage with Wells Fargo (not yet reporting), an auto loan with Toyota Motor Credit (could have paid cash, but wanted to build my history), the BofA secured Visa, and a store card (Spiegel). All accounts are in good standing, no lates, with a credit utilization of 4%.

My scores as of today are:

TU – 690 (8 inquiries)

EQ – 692 (6 inquiries)

Most of the inquiries are related to obtaining a mortgage, though some are also from setting up life in the US (cellphone, utilities, etc.).

I’d like to be able to get back in with AMEX for various reasons, not least of which is that if approved, I might be able to get my account re-aged to the initial account’s opening date. I know I’m most probably on their blacklist. I haven’t heard from them in over 15 years and have no idea what the balance is.

What is my best course of action? Do I apply for a card and then appeal/ask for Oasis when declined? Or do I call them directly, explain the situation, pay my outstanding balance and hope they approve me for a new card? Is there any hope for approval (after paying off the old debt) with my current credit profile?

I am going to ask another question regarding which CC should I add to my credit card profile to add to my rewards. I have excellent credit, pay my balance in full each month, and I use my CC to pay for everything I can to rack up points/miles etc.

I am at a point where I want to increase my points and miles so there are some options. The question is, what is too much. I basically share a VISA with my wife, and have an older VISA that i keep. I realize that you should keep older credit cards for history. I want to add at least one AM/EX either the Starwood points, or the Delta Miles. I also might switch our Cap1 card to the signature to get 2 points for every $ 1 spent, instead of 1.25 for $ 1. That is a new card, not a switch. And recently, I have received letters for UNITED miles (20,000 bonus) and AA Miles (21,000 Bonus). I would love to use those just to add to my miles on those flights. Could I add 3-4 cards without hurting my excellent credit? I will not rack up debt.

Is it possible to get CLI upon activation? I’ve never done this before.

I completed a payment plan with NCO financial for an old AMEX debt that was my DW’s…it is reporting a $0 closed and the only entries are NOV 2008 KD and Dec 2008 OK.

Has anyone had any luck with GW with them?

Will removing this increase my score – this is the only collection on my report – I do have a few lates that are 24+ months old that I am working on GW letters for.

Thanks!
