i will be 21 when i start university in Glasgow (uni of Glasgow) next september and im thinking of buying my own place while studying there. i just want to know if you its a good idea and can you give me some advice.

im planning to buy a place worth about 250,000, i dont want to stay in halls because there will be a lot of little kids crazy and getting drunk, ive done this and over it now im an adult not a kid and wont be able to live there with them.
instead of playing £500 a month on halls im thinking of using that money to pay my mortgage, if i cant afford to pay on my own, parents can chip in plus i could get a house mate. i dont know if the bank will give me a mortgage and i dont know what i need to get one, any advice and what do you think ?

when getting a mortgage do i need to pay 10-20% worth of the property’s, cant i get a mortgage without paying a lil in advance ?

after i finish university if i stay in the city(i live in London) i will keep it and get a job there but if i move back to London i will sell it and pay the mortgage all in once and keep the profit from the property if i sell it for more then i bough it for.

I am so new to this credit game and am not sure what to do. I have been reading all these forums lately and have seen some good advice. I am 45 and have NEVER had a credit card or mortgage. I have had several loans with the last one recorded in ’09 for $40K. All have been balloon notes, not monthly. There were 2 times I was 30 days late on two of these notes, once in ’05 and once in ’07. I have 3 negative medical collections from ’04, ’05 and ’08. The last time I pulled my score was in April 2010, it was 602. I recently tried pulling my credit again and was informed that I didn’t have enough credit on file to calculate a score. So last week I went to my bank and made a $15K loan that I plan to pay back in 30 days. I am now thinking I should have arranged to pay the loan back in installments. I have always used the same bank, all my adult life.

I also applied for a secured credit card with a $1,000.00 deposit. I hope I am on the right track to get some kind of credit. Anyone have any better ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

I’m in the odd situation of being an adult (33) returning to school for my B.A. and unable to get a student loan without a cosigner, but I don’t have anyone to be a cosigner. Any recommendations? I’ve done the FAFSA but my income puts me just a little too high to be eligible for much based on “need.” I’ve been improving my credit for the past few years, and it recently spiked to 750+ but has recently leveled out at 695. I’ve tried applying for a mere $5,000 student loan (Sallie Mae and Wells Fargo) but on both it said I have to apply with a cosigner.

Any recommendations? Loans that don’t require a co-signer? Other options?

Thanks so much from a desparate student!

Dec 292010

Lost $$ in investments, figured oh well…win some lose some.

Lost over $100,000.00 in home value over 2 years time, figured w.t.h. I plan on living here for the rest of my life, no skin lost.

Lost both jobs in less than a year, figured we were both highly skilled with impeccable resumes.  It’ll be okay.

Trimmed all the fat and hunkered down once we realized there has to BE a job to get  job, but we had savings and figured we’d be okay if at least one of us got a job within a year.

Fast forward to now…17 months later.

Eggs were on SALE for 10.85 a case…(5 dozen)

Honeydew melons on sale for 4.99 each.  They were as big as my grandsons tiny little baby head.  :-

We spent 78.00 on 2 plastic bags of groceries.  Stuff for green bean casserole, 5# of asstd. fruit for ambrosia salad, 4# of sausage, 2 bags of cheapy cereal, a 2 cup bag of chopped nuts and a loaf of bread.

Gas is over $3.00 a gallon.

Everything was significantly higher in not only the grocery stores, but in discount stores and almost everywhere we went before Christmas.  Anyone who seriously believes that the economy is getting better is deluded, or alternately, can I have some of what they’re taking?   One simply cannot look at any one sector and say “Look!, the economy is improving!”

Unemployment has NOT decreased.  The government would love to push that theory, but in reality, one does not become employed magically when they stop claiming their unemployment insurance payments.  And, glory be to the highest I heard all last week because “They passed the extension!”  Most folks who aren’t claiming their unemployment insurance payments don’t even grasp that it was NOT an extension of benefits.  It was simply a stop gap measure to extend the date by which one was eligble to apply for the extensions already in place.  It had NO effect on those at the end of their last extension.  So, tons of people went into Christmas knowing that this week, there would be no check.

I am deeply saddened by the fact that by this summer, without some miraculous changes, we will enter the beginning of an era where many children will see homelessness as their normal.  Millions of people will lose everything they worked for their entire lives.  I already see many families in communal living situations, “kids” lost their jobs, lost their homes and moved back in with mom & dad or siblings along with significant others and children of their own.  I live in a little grouping of 5 homes and 3 of us have our adult children & grandchildren living at home again after job losses.   The world is changing for millions upon millions of people.

I’m thinking that the most voiciferous/viscious among the posters should take a moment to thank whoever you pray to if your life hasn’t been turned upside down by this mess, and if you could, lay off those who’re just trying to make sense of their world falling apart.  If you must feel superior, fine.  I can live with you thinking you’re more intellegent, made better decisions, hey, whatever gets you through the day.  But seriously, life is hard enough right now.  Feel superior in silence, huh?

Hi all,

I need your help and advice once again.  i came home from work last night to find paperwork taped to my door from a local court stating that I was being sued by Capital one.  According to the letter I have 21 days to respond.  Honestly I do owe the debt, and for those of you who are not familiar with my posts I had fallen behind on bills due to the economy and health issues and simply did not have the money.  I have been working my way down the list of those to pay starting with the smallest balances first, but Capital one is at the bottom since it was the biggest.  I originally had a balance of $2500, but they snowballed the interest and fees on me at the last minute and the bill is up to $4,627. I do not have the money to pay this right now, seriously.  I don’t even have the money to pay my student loans even and am trying to work something out on that.  My hands are completely tied.  I’ve never been in this situation in my adult life.  What do I do? By the way the account shows as a charge off on my credit report.

Secondly, I had a second card with Capital one which they closed as charge off, but are still sending me emails directing me to a special website to make payments.  I have not paid this either because again I have not worked my way to it on the list.  I don’t want this card to escalate to the same point as the first one so should I go ahead and start making payments for this card on their special website even if all it is is $5 or $10?

Thanks in advance….

Ah, my new California and all of my “adult” things. å› æ¤. I am a 18 year old student. I want to buy a sports car (’01 support research into Eclipse). What is the car insurance How much approximately?

For the driver was 25 years, but over 21 years, what is the most MPV SUV or car insurance? Accident free history. Tickets. A clean driving record.

First off, I am an adult…I am selling something on craigslist.

If I give out my cell number, is there anyway someone could get more information?

or should I deal only through email?
