Hi – I’d like to buy a house sometime in the next year so I’m trying to clean up my credit.  Unfortunatley I recently had a new tradeline added to it.  It came from an unpaid parking ticket in San Diego, CA.  I’m not sure if it was the OC (San Diego Superior Court) or CA (Alliance One) who issued it to the agencies (I haven’t gotten a credit report lately either but I’m assuming since a collection agency has this that it’s on there).

The initial amount the OC/court gave to the CA was ridiculous so I wrote a letter to the judge asking for reduction in payment as well as paying them directly so as to remove it from my credit report (I guess sort of PFD but not officially as I didn’t know about PFDs at the time).    The response was that the fee was lowered but I still have to pay CA and “set up payments by 4/15/10

I contacted CA by phone to ask for pay for delete but I was told that they cannot remove the tradeline because it is a “valid debt” and they just let the credit bureaus “run it off the tape”.   I’m not sure if the tradeline was issued by the CA or OC – how do I find this out?

My question now is where to go from here – I’ve done a lot of reading but can’t seem to find a good answer.  The DOFD was 1/8/10.  I’m thinking that a DV letter would be a waste of time because I know for certain it is valid, and I’ve recently had contact with OC (and verified that OC has had contact with CA to lower balance).

  1. Send a PFD to CA and/or call multiple times (from what I have been able to find Alliance One is pretty difficult with these)
  2. Not do anything and wait until CA gets frustrated and thinks I won’t ever pay – then do something.
  3. Just pay now it and deal (maybe negotiate a lower fee?)

Options #1 and #2 kind of worry me because I don’t want to have anything on my “record” (I think it may go onto my California driver’s license though) ….but I don’t even know if that matters because I no longer live in California.  I live in Washington and have a Washington driver’s license already anyway.

Thoughts or advice?

Side question – I had a mishap with health bill a year or two ago and ended up paying off CA with a verbal agreement that they’d take it off my report (I was naive then).  Needless to say they never took it off and it’s now “Paid Collection”.  Is there anyway to fix that at this point or is this a dead issue?  I’ve called CA but they have no record of any agreement to take it off my report.
