short version…
Â
credit card belonged to my father. when he died, BoA tried to pin the debt on my mother (she was an authorized user). debt now belongs to CA, asset acceptance.
Â
first, we sent letters to CA for proof the account belonged to my mother, ie. provide us a signature. they did not. continued to report collection.
Â
next, certified letters were sent to credit bureaus to remove collection directly. they returned as verified.
Â
next, certified letter to CA asking for validation.
Â
almost 45 days letter, received a letter from CA saying, “we have reviewed the information you provided, as well as our notes and the information provided from the original creditor. as a result of our investigation we have reported your account as ‘disputed’ to the credit reporting agencies.”
Â
this makes no sense to me… of course it’s being disputed, I’M disputing it. with THEM…
Â
i’m trying to refinance my mother’s home and cannot because of this. is my next step a complaint with the BBB or FTC?
Â
any suggestions/help appreciated.
Â
thanks.
