So I have been trying to clean up my credit and paid 3 of my 5 collections ( Before I discovered myFICO and PFD), so with the information I learned here I started my GW process. I have been sending out letters, emails, faxes and playing the waiting game. After getting no responses I was getting very discouraged, but after reading a horoscope that basically said that I have been working on a project and I am starting to become discouraged, but not to give up because I am closer than I think, and that I had to put in just a little more effort to reach my goal,  I decided to put in just a little more effort and just called the 3 collections that I paid. LO and behold I must have been doing something right because, deletions were already put in for the accounts. The whole time I was getting down on myself thinking it wasn’t working for me and that I was doing something wrong because I wasn’t hearing back from any of the company’s, when in fact I was succeeding. Persistence is definitely key when your trying to reach your goals, Thanks so much myFICO forums and everyone who offered me advice, OMG I’m Soo Happy!

Does anyone know when the credit bureaus update the information on your credit report?  Is it every month or only when the creditors report a change in status / balance / late pays etc?  Also how quickly are the updates seen by the consumer after the change is made on your report?  TIA

I have one medical collection on my report.  Its from an emergency clinic in FL when we were vacationing, I had to bring my daughter.  We live in MA.

I started the HIPAA process, followed the instructions by Opting Out and sending dispute letters.  The dispute came back verified and the relationship between the OC and CA was confirmed.

I then sent the HIPAA letter to the OC with the appropriate insert and a bank check (with deposit only to OC) for the full amount, sent CMRRR.  I received the return receipt that it was delivered and accepted.  The check was cashed.

I then sent the follow up letter to the OC with copies and a cover letter to the CRAs.  My reports were then updated with the collection changing from “Unpaid” to “Paid” but the collection still remains on my reports.

Im not sure what to do now.  I know I cant contact the CA at all for anything, but the OC is ignoring my follow up letters.  I need this deleted as its keeping my FICOs down and I plan on applying for a mortgage within the next year.

Help please :smileysad:

Well, it has been such a long hard road, and I have gained very little ground. On my school loans I got the 120 lates removed a few months ago, but not the 7 times of 90 days lates (7 accounts). Those happened as a repercussion of getting laid off my job 2 years ago and being homeless and could not pay last summer. Several times I have requested they remove the other lates, to no avail. My last turn down was today by email.

I just lost my job yesterday and called today for defferment or forebearance, whatever it is called. Do you think that will remove the lates? For some reason I thought I had read somewhere that it happened to someone on this board.

I have about $120,000 in Student loan debt (a mix of federal and private loans at various interest rates) and $7K, in Credit card debt- the CC debt was about $12K when I graduated a year and a half ago- but it is getting so frustrating not being able to pay this off…I pay my student loans on time everymonth.

However, I was toying with the idea of going to my bank and finding out if I can get a private loan to consolidate all of this debt and just make one payment- maybe a 15 year loan.

Is this possible? What kind of rate could I get on this with a 740 credit score?

I believe 2 of my accounts have been re-aged, and I need to find out how to prove it. I do not have any of my own records from these accounts. They are both from 2003. I am confused, though, about some things about credit reports. First, I have my current online copies, and former online copies showing the dofd has been changed on my EQ reports. These were printed directly from EQs site.  But some people are telling me that I can’t believe what is on the online version of my credit report, and that I need to order an actual “paper copy” from EQ.  Why would the info. be any different from what you see online & what they mail you? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of ordering your reports from the CRAs to check for accuracy?

I can order my current hard copy to show the dofd that is being reported now, but since I only have my online version of my older reports, will that be good enough to prove the OC has changed the dofd? Do the CRA’s keep older versions of your reports so that you may order an older hard copy, or is that info. lost once the cr is updated?

I am trying to improve my credit score. I ordered my scores and my credit is okay but could be better because I have a negative item from Verizon Wireless. I was robbed by gunpoint the night before Thanksgiving in 07. That night I called Verizon and had them cancel my service because I could no longer get another phone from them because I had already used my insurance. I had two accounts with them, my cell number and an internet card. I thought that I had canceled both accounts and paid the early termination fee of 175. I got some letters but disregarded them because I had already paid them. Come to find out I “supposedly” only canceled my cell number and not the internet card of which had a number too. I recently moved and have been getting collection notices from different agencies and Verizon. I don’t know who I owe or what amount or if I even owe because nobody explained to me that the internet card was associated with a number. On the credit report it says $201. I called Verizon and they said it was with a collection agency but the collection agency that they told me is not the collection agency that is listed on my credit report. Do I send a Debt Validation letter and a pay for delete to the collection agency and Verizon? im very confused.
